Part 4: Illegal Immigrants Killing American Citizens is NOT A "Little Thing"....Despite What A Congressman Thinks

A little while ago we discussed the terrible tragedy where a young American citizen, Kate Steinle, was gunned down by an illegal immigration who had seven felony convictions and who had been deported five times. If that was not enough heartache for Ms. Steinle’s family and friends, an Illinois Congressman,Luis Gutierrez, described her cold blooded killing as a “little thing” that got in the way of his political aims for illegal immigrants. As we observed at that time, this is just a cold hearted, despicable thing to say especially when Ms. Steinle’s parents. family members, and boy friend were in mourning for this senseless death.

But this is how far the country has fallen away from respecting those with different opinions and the rule of law. The Congressman views her death as a little thing in the context of his political aims and ambitions. Cities and the politicians across the country who operate them have decided that the rights of illegal immigrants are more important than observing current Federal law and the lives of American citizens.

Thus, I thought it worthwhile to take some discussion time to identify and honor those American citizens that have suffered and died as a result of politicians who think that the the status of illegal immigrants is more important than the lives of American citizens. I am not saying that all illegal immigrants are violent or criminals, the majority are likely not.

But it is important to understand that because the Washington political class has not sealed the border, that Washington politicians have not enforced standing immigration law in so-called “sanctuary cities,” and that local politicians give haven and refuge to illegal immigrants in sanctuary cities, many of whom are criminal elements, Americans are dying. And the mainstream media for the most part have ignored or downplayed these deaths to facilitate the work of people like Congressman Gutierrez who thinks that a single, unnecessary American citizen death at the hands of illegal immigrant who never should have been on an American street is a “little thing.”

Note: this is the last of four article relative to violence and crimes committed against American citizens by illegal immigrant criminals. We thought it would only take two posts but apparently the problem is twice as bad as we forecasted since this is our fourth and final post...so far.

1) According to local Alabama police reports, Ramiro Ajualip is a 27 year old illegal Mexican immigrant. He allegedly has confessed to the rape of a ten year old Alabama girl earlier this year in March. The likely reasons why no one was aware of this heinous crime until recently is that the mainstream media did not cover it and Congressman Gutierrez probably considered it also a “little thing.”

But with people like Donald Trump bringing immigration to the forefront of the political dialog these days, we now know the following details of the rape incident:
  • According to the police, Ajualip raped and sodomized the ten year old.
  • He then threatened to kill her if she did not keep quiet about the assault.
  • The girl eventually had enough courage to tell her parents which led to the arrest of this illegal Mexican immigrant.
  • Local Russellville Police Chief Chris Hargett summed up this tragedy as follows: “You know, (it was) a 10-year-old child that probably has no idea what’s really going on. It`s sad because now that child is going to be scarred for the rest of her life.”
I wonder if Congressman Gutierrez considers the rape of a ten year old American girl a “little thing?”

2)A June 15, 2015 article in the Washington Times by Stephen Dinan discussed the reality that over 100 illegal immigrants released by the Obama administration went on to be charged with alleged killings. His reporting is based on official government reports.

One documented case the Federal immigration officials did not know about an illegal immigrant’s death threats and court injunctions until AFTER he was accused of murder. That was just one of 121 immigrants who at one time were being detained but were eventually accused of committing “homicide-related offenses.” The majority of these released illegal immigrants were released at the discretion of the Feds and were not released as a result of a court order.

The order went on to identify Don Rosenberg whose son was killed in a traffic accident by an illegal immigrant who was driving without a driver’s license who was quoted: “These people can and should be deported. We have that option, and we don’t want to take it, and this is what happens. I guess until somebody who has the responsibility to make these decisions has one of their loved ones killed, it’s going to continue to happen.”

And finally, the article reported that Federal immigration personnel releases hundreds of illegal Cuban immigrants every month because Cuba refuses to take these Cuban citizens back. Instead, the Obama administration releases them onto the streets of America, increasing the risk of criminal behavior perpetrated against American citizens.

How does that make sense? And why was this not a requirement of America ending the Cuban embargo? Take back your own citizens and then we reopen relations. Could it be because the Obama administration has absolutely no foreign relations negotiating skills, as witnessed by the giveaways to both Cuba and Iran?

Does Congressman Gutierrez consider releasing hundreds of illegal immigrants from Cuba every month a “little thing?”

Americans who want a secure border and rational and sane immigration rules and laws are not racists. We think that any unnecessary deaths, in this discussion unnecessary citizen deaths by criminal and violent illegal immigrants, are horrible and not a little thing. We think these unnecessary murders and violence are an absolute disgrace relative to Federal government incompetence and local government’s sanctuary cities and tolerance of criminal illegal immigrants.

To attack and slander Americans who blame the current system for letting multiple felon illegal immigrants to walk our streets is the height of absurdity. Just another example of where logic an adult conversations is choked off by politicians that have their own agendas and personal careers placed ahead of what is right for the welfare and safety of the rest of us.

Although this ends our four part series on Americans who have been attacked, killed and raped as a result of the Washington political class and the Federal government not doing their job to enforce immigration laws and not sealing the southern border, I would bet that this is not the last time we discuss this very serious subject. Despite what Congressman Gutierrez says, this is not a “little thing.”

And the mainstream media for the most part of ignored or downplayed these deaths to facilitate the work of people like Congressman Gutierez who thinks that a single, unnecessary American citizen death at the hands of illegal immigrant who never should have been on an American street is a “little thing.”Note: we thought we would finish this theme yesterday but have since come across another set of murders, rapes and other violence as a result of illegal immigrants so we will need at least another day or two to complete the discussion.1) Chuck Ross writing for the Daily Caller discussed the tragic case of how a 29 year old illegal immigrant, who has been charged with an alleged rape and murder in a hammer attack, had avoided being deported twice in the past 15 months. While Federal immigration officials had once wanted to have the attacker, Victor Aureliano Hernandez Ramirez, detained, they later declared him no longer a deportation priority under new guidelines from the Obama administration.Victor Aureliano Hernandez Ramirez and a crime partner have been charged with allegedly breaking into the California home of Marilyn Pharis the early morning of July 24, 2015. They allegedly beat the 64 year old Pharis with a hammer and sexually assaulted her. Unfortunately, Ms.Pharis died about a week later. This apparently is not Ramirez’s first brush with the law. As with just about every other illegal immigrant criminal we have discussed this week, he has had a deep history of criminal activity. He has previously been arrested for battery, drugs, and probation violations. Local Santa Maria police chief Ralph Martin did not mince words on who is at fault for Ms. Pharis’s murder: “I think this is a national issue – it starts with [the Obama] administration and their policies. You can draw a direct line to this governor and Legislature. I am not remiss to say that from Washington DC to Sacramento, there is a blood trail to Marilyn Pharis’ bedroom.” I wonder if Congressman Gutierrez considers Ms. Pharis’s murder a “little thing?”2) Breitbart recently covered Congressional hearings where American families who had lost family members to the violence of illegal immigrant criminals testified in front of Congress. Besides detailing their horrific stories of grief, the report also reported that Congressman Luis Guteriez was extremely disrespectful and disgraceful towards those that dared to have a different immigration opinion on him. Specifically, the report stated: “After Democratic Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-IL) exploded with rage at Jessica Vaughan of the Center for Immigration Studies for daring to quote him as saying Kathryn Steinle’s death was a “little thing,” three mothers whose children were murdered by illegal aliens walked out of the hearing in disgust.” Again, another disgraceful display of the lack of compassion and sympathy for American families who had loved ones violently taken from them long before they should have left. The article then went on to describe the loss of these families:Laura Wilkerson:
Ms.

  • Wilkerson led the walkout as soon as Gutierrez began to rage for being quoted as saying a woman’s death at the hands an illegal alien was a “little thing.”
  • Her son, Joshua, was murdered by Hermilio Moralez after being tortured on November 16, 2010. Joshua had given Moralez a ride home but that did not stop Moralez from tying Joshua up and setting him on fire.
  • Moralez later bragged in court that his “killing skills took over.”
  • In previous Congressional testimony, Ms. Wilkerson testified: “This was our family’s 9/11 terrorist attack by a foreign invader, whether you want to recognize it or whether you do not. This government continues to fail or even recognize that we have an issue. Americans are dying daily at the hands of criminals that we don’t even know are here.”
Sabine Durden :
  • Her son, Dominic, was also killed by an illegal immigrant.
  • That killer, an illegal immigrant from Guatemala, had previous brushes with the law that included a conviction for felony armed robbery and two DUIs.
  • Durden was also greatly offended by Gutierrez’s bullying, saying he made her “physically sick,” and that he is a “disgrace.”

Mary Ann Mendoza:

  • Ms. Mendoza lost her son, Police Sergeant Brandon Mendoza, in May, 2014, when an illegal Mexican immigrant killed him after driving on the wrong side of the road.
  • The article said he was “blackout drunk” with a blood-alcohol level three times the legal level.
  • The illegal immigrant, Raul Silva Corona, had been in the country illegally for twenty years and not unexpectedly, had a long criminal record but was still driving on the streets of America.
  • Previously he had been charged with criminal conspiracy, leaving the scene of an accident, assault, and burglary.
  • In a letter to President Obama, Mendoza asked why a violent illegal immigrant was allowed to stay in the country for decades: “The Federal Government knew he, Raul Silva Corona , was an illegal immigrant when he was convicted on crimes in 1994 in Colorado. The prosecutors were ‘lenient’ on him and several charges were dismissed… Why wasn’t he deported?” Mendoza wrote. “I am furious that the Federal Government allowed this criminal to stay in this country and KILL my son!”

I wonder if Congressman Gutierrez thinks each of these unnecessary deaths are a "little thing?”
Americans who want a secure border and rational and sane immigration rules and laws are not racists. We think that any unnecessary deaths, in this discussion unnecessary citizen deaths by criminal and violent illegal immigrants, are horrible and not a little thing. Just another example of where logic an adult conversations is choked off by politicians that have their own agendas and personal careers placed ahead of what is right for the welfare and safety of the rest of us.More heartbreaking, unnecessary deaths tomorrow.

Part 2: Illegal Immigrants Killing American Citizens is NOT A "Little Thing"....Despite What A Congressman Thinks

A little while ago we discussed the terrible tragedy where a young American citizen, Kate Steinle, was gunned down by an illegal immigration who had seven felony convictions and who had been deported five times. If that was not enough heartache for Ms. Steinle’s family and friends, an Illinois Congressman,Luis Guterize, described her cold blooded killing as a “little thing” that got in the way of his political aims for illegal immigrants. As we observed at that time, this is just a cold hearted, despicable thing to say especially when Ms. Steinle’s parents, family members and boy friend were in mourning for this senseless death.

And the mainstream media for the most part of ignored or downplayed these deaths to facilitate the work of people like Congressman Gutierrez who thinks that a single, unnecessary American citizen death at the hands of illegal immigrant, who never should have been on an American street, is a “little thing.”

1) Michelle Moons writing for the Washington Examiner in July, 2015 discussed the story of Sabine Durden. Ms. Durden is a legal immigrant from Germany. Unfortunately, she also suffered the same fate of the Kate Steinle family since she had a son, Dominic, killed by an illegal immigrant in 2012.

When she found out that President Obama had invited an illegal immigrant to be a guest at the White House she decided to write a letter to the President in protest.

Ms. Durden told Breitbart News why she wrote the letter: “I decided to write to the President because it is highly upsetting that he continues to invite illegals to the White House, but never spoke to any of us who lost so dearly.” Some of her grief came out in the letter where she criticizes the Obama for inviting illegal aliens to his events: “WHEN do legal citizens that have been affected by this immigration issue, get a chance to share their side of the story with you?”

Details of her son’s killing include the following details:
  • Dominic was 30 years old and Ms. Durden's only child.
  • He was killed by an illegal immigrant from Guatemala who had been in the US illegally for many years.
  • He had already committed a number of crimes including a felony armed robbery and two DUIs.
  • He was finally deported a year and a half after the death of Dominic in 2014, probably due to the tireless efforts of Ms. Durden.
Ms. Durden stated to Breitbart that she is all for legal immigration. Would Congressman Gutierrez consider Dominic’s unnecessary death at the hands of an illegal immigrant a “little thing?”

2) Hans von Spakovsky and Rachel Landsman, writing for the Heritage Foundation found an interesting quote from the illegal immigrant that gunned down and murdered American citizen Kate Steinle a few months ago in San Francisco. Juan Francisco Lopez-Sanchez, the murderer of Ms. Steinle, admitted to the murder and when asked why he was in San Francisco, he said that “he knew San Francisco was a sanctuary city where he would not be pursued by immigration officials.”

Mr. von Spakovsky and Ms. Landsman define “sanctuary cities” as cities within the United States that refuse to comply with Federal immigration laws and authorities. Some estimates put the number of sanctuary cities at more than 150 cities where illegal immigrants, especially those that have violent and criminal records and tendencies, can live with little fear of being deported.

But back to San Francisco. Kate Steinle was not the first innocent American citizen to be killed by an illegal immigrant in that city. In 2008, Edwin Ramos, a member of the ultra-violent MS-13 gang, cold bloodedly murdered three American citizens in San Francisco, Tony Bologna and his two teenage sons, Michael and Matthew. As with many other illegal immigrants, Ramos had previously been convicted of previous violent felonies but was still walking around the streets of a sanctuary city. One of those felonies was the attempted robbery of a pregnant woman.

According to the Heritage article, San Francisco and other sanctuary cities are behaving in direct violation of Federal law: “Under Section 642 of the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996 (8 U.S.C. §1373), it is a violation of federal law for any state or local government to “prohibit, or in any way restrict” law enforcement or other government officials from sending or receiving information from the federal government on the “citizenship or immigration status, lawful or unlawful, of any individual.””

However, under the Obama administration, it decided in 2010 to not bring legal action against sanctuary cities, a move that quite possibly could have saved the lives of many American citizens. The Obama administration also terminated an existing Federal program, Secure Communities, that made it easier for immigration authorities to find and deport criminal illegal immigrants. As a result, our communities are less safe.

Although the Feds had asked for the eventual murderer of Ms. Steinle to be detained and turned over to them, the city of San Francisco ignored the request, released a seven time felon and five time deportee onto the streets of San Francisco.

I wonder if Congressman Gutierrez would consider the murders of the Bologna men a “little thing?”

3) But it is just not murders that are a plague of our busted immigration system and enforcement capabilities. Consider Congressional Record testimony from Congressman Ted Poe, as reported by the Universal Free Press website:

Ripped from the bodies of unwilling women, undergarments cling to branches of a tree just a few feet from the lawless U.S.-Mexico border, dozens of pairs of underwear thrown there by rapists. These are called rape trees.

Each pair is a trophy from a woman that was smuggled into the United States, victims that are heard screaming in the desert. They are raped, even gang raped by illegal human smugglers, then forced into silence.

These trees are a warning. Illegal immigrants evade our borders but crime doesn't evade them. Some become criminals. Some become victims. They are raped, robbed and murdered by other illegals, human smugglers and brutal criminals who then claim other victims.

Their report goes onto to cite the NCFIRE immigration advocacy group Facebook page as claiming that since November, 2013, the state of North Carolina has seen over 3,300 sex crime criminal charges filed against illegal immigrants just within the North Carolina border. Given how far away North Carolina is from the Mexican border, can you imagine how many sex crimes are being committed by illegal immigrants in states that are physcially much closer to the Mexican border?

Does Congressman Guyiterrez think that an unnecessary rape of any woman by an illegal immigrant is a "little thing?"

The full article can be accessed at:

http://universalfreepress.com/rape-trees-proof-of-massive-number-of-sexual-assaults-occurring-on-border/

Americans who want a secure border and rational and sane immigration rules and laws are not racists. We think that all unnecessary deaths and rapes, in this discussion unnecessary citizen deaths and rapes by criminal and violent illegal immigrants, are horrible and not a "little thing." We think these unnecessary murders and violence are an absolute disgrace relative to Federal government incompetence and local government’s sanctuary cities and tolerance of criminal illegal immigrants.

To attack and slander Americans who blame the current system for letting multiple felon illegal immigrants to walk our streets is the height of absurdity. Just another example of where logic and adult conversations are choked off by politicians that have their own agendas and personal careers placed ahead of what is right for the welfare and safety of the rest of us.

Part 1: Illegal Immigrants Killing American Citizens is NOT A "Little Thing"....Despite What A Congressman Thinks

A little while ago we discussed the terrible tragedy where a young American citizen, Kate Steinle, was gunned down by an illegal immigrant who had seven felony convictions and who had been deported five times. If that was not enough heartache for Ms. Steinle’s family and friends, an Illinois Congressman, Luis Gutierrez, described her cold blooded killing as a “little thing” that got in the way of his political aims for illegal immigrants.

Cities and the politicians across the country who operate them have decided that the rights of illegal immigrants are more important than observing current Federal law and protecting the lives of American citizens.

But it is important to understand that because the Washington political class has not sealed the border, that Washington politicians have not enforced standing immigration laws in so-called “sanctuary cities,” and that local politicians give haven and refuge to illegal immigrants in sanctuary cities, many of whom are criminal elements, Americans are dying. And the mainstream media for the most part ignored or downplayed these citizen deaths to facilitate the work of people like Congressman
Gutierrez who thinks that a single, unnecessary American citizen death at the hands of illegal immigrant, who never should have been on an American street, is a “little thing.”

1) Brian Omar Hyde illegally entered this country about seven months ago from Belize, according to recent local news reports. He is also the prime suspect in a triple homicide in Lee County, Florida. In what was described by police as a “very violent,” Hyde is suspected of killing 37-year-old Dorla Pitts, her pregnant 17-year-old daughter Starlett Pitts and the girl's boyfriend Michael Kelly Jr., 19, leaving an 18 month old child in the house unharmed. Those killed had suffered "repeated, sharp force trauma," according to the local sheriff's office.

Fortunately, Hyde had been pulled over for driving on the wrong side of the road by Fort Myers police. At that time he was put into custody for having “visible blood” on his clothes. He was arrested for driving without a license and later booked for the murders.

Would the Congressman Gutierrez consider the victims in this triple homicide a “little thing?”

2) The Conservative Tribune website recently wrote an article on how an Ohio judge had delivered an emotional review in a case involving another illegal immigrant, Juan Razo. Mr. Razo has allegedly murdered one woman, shot another woman, and attempted to rape a 14 year old girl who was his niece.

At the hearing, Razo said that he did not have a license, passport, identification, and that his birth certificate was left behind in Mexico. The judge observed that, “I have somebody who we don’t even know who he is, why he is in this country, why he is here illegally and why he allegedly committed a murder." The judge then proceeded to set bail at a whopping $10 million.

Rather than showing pity on the victims of the heinous crimes committed by this illegal immigrant, a Hispanic support organization called HOLA put forth the justification for the murder, violence, and rape attempt because of the mental health of the suspect: “Thus, this is not an issue about immigration; rather it is about the problems associated with adults with mental illness,” Veronica Dahlberg of HOLA said. “We are disappointed to see leaders exploiting this tragedy to promote a political agenda.”

I am sorry but Ms. Dahlberg is sounding like Congressman  Gutierrez, the victims of the violent crimes are just “little things” when it comes to the rights and mental health of illegal immigrants. If the American political class were doing their jobs, one American citizen would be still alive, another would have been hurt, and a 14 year old would not have an attempted rape in her memory. But these are probably just “little things” when it comes to Congressman Gutierrez.

3) The Washington Examiner ran an article  by Kelly Cohen on July 30, 2015 that described how Juan Razo, the illegal immigrant we just discussed, actually was in the custody of law enforcement but U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials told the the local sheriff's department to let Razo go.

The Feds told the sheriff to release him since although he was here illegally he had not committed a crime yet. Now he has committed not one crime but a series of crimes and a family is burying a loved one simply because the Federal government was not doing its job.

4) CNN recently reported that Jamiel Shaw, Sr. would be introducing Presidential candidate Donald Trump at an Arizona political rally. Why Mr. Shaw? Mr. Shaw’s son, a standout Los Angeles high school football player, was gunned down in 2008 by an illegal immigrant gangbanger.

In Mr. Shaw’s opinion: "He's [Trump] speaking for the dead. He's speaking for my son. He's speaking for the people who can't speak for themselves that demand that somebody do something."

Would Congressman Gutierrez consider the murder of Mr. Shaw’s son a “little thing?”

5) Ever Olivos-Gutierrez has been an illegal immigrant living in this country since 2004. He was arrested in 2007 but was released before the Feds got around to picking him up and taking him into custody for being in this country illegally.

As a result of this incompetence, this illegal immigrant went forth and incurred three DUI convictions and was still not put into custody and deported. But the fourth time was not the charm as Olivos-Gutierrez was recently arrested AGAIN when he was convicted for a fourth time for DUI that resulted in the death of a 17 year old man. Olivos-Gutierrez was found to have a blood-alcohol level that was three times the legal limit that obviously contributed to his speeding at 80 MPH through four red lights before he killed the young man.

Would CongressmaGutierrez consider the unnecessary death of the 17 year a “little thing?”

That will do it for today, more examples of Americans suffering at the hands of violent and illegal immigrants. Again, this is not to say that all illegal immigrants are violent criminals, most are not. However, the victims of this government’s inability to enforce the laws of the land and protect innocent Americans from the imported violence of illegal immigrant criminals needs to be part of any discussion on immigration reform.

Their deaths and the suffering and mourning of their families are not “little things.” They are victims of Washington’s inability or unwillingness to seal our borders and do their jobs when it comes to rounding up, departing or detaining violent criminals who often cross our borders numerous times with impunity.

August, 2015, Part 1, Political Class Insanity: Failing Political Hotel In Baltimore, Heartless Politican In Illinois, and Wage Increase Implosion In Seattle

At the beginning of each month we take a week or so to review the latest insanity from the American political class. Insanity from them includes a wide range of very depressing actions which can include wasteful spending, idiotic quotes, an inefficient and ineffective government bureaucracy, failed economic policies, etc. Every month we continue to prove that we are being served by the worst set of politicians ever.

And as you will see, this month’s review and discussions do nothing to prove that this thesis is wrong in any way:

1) In 2008, Martin O’Malley, then the mayor of Baltimore, a former governor of Maryland and current Presidential candidate, decided it would be a good idea to spend $305 million of taxpayer money to build a hotel, the Baltimore Hilton, in downtown Baltimore. I assume he thought it would be a good idea, would generate tourism traffic and revenue, and what the heck, it was only taxpayer money, not his.

His project resulted in the following results seven years later:

  • After seven years, the hotel has never posted an annual profit.
  • In the BEST year of operation, the hotel lost $2.9 million.
  • According to Maryland state senator, James Brochin: “It’s the biggest boondoggle ever. It’s hemorrhaging money every year and has less-than-stellar performance.”
  • In case you wondering if this is partisan politics talking, O’Malley and Brochin are both Democrats.
  • The hotel was originally supposed to attract revenue from a theoretical untapped convention market in Baltimore, but most conventions passed on Baltimore, and this hotel, for other locations such as nearby Washington, D.C.
  • Even the heavily Democratic Baltimore city council opposed the project with only three out of fifteen supporting the project.“In my district, I can’t get funding to fix vacant houses,” Councilwoman Mary Pat Clarke told The Baltimore Sun in 2005. “I’m worried about the financing and the kind of precedent this is setting.”
  • “The government shouldn’t be in the business of owning businesses. It was a catastrophic economical mistake by O’Malley, and the whole thing is ridiculous,” said Brochin.
  • O’Malley claimed back before the project was approved that the hotel venture would be “risk free.” Missed that forecast by a little bit, didn’t we?
  • How bad was this concept? Although it was located next to Camden Yards, the home of the Baltimore Orioles, a team that drew 2.4 million fans to home games in 2014, the hotel still managed to lose $5.6 million that year.
Don’t you think that professionals within the hotel industry would have built a hotel there on their own without taxpayer support if it was a good idea? What made O’Malley think that he knew something that the professionals in the hotel industry did not know? Just more insanity from the American political class, butting their noses and taxpayer dollars into things they no nothing about and wasting time and money in the process. For Baltimore citizens, hundreds of millions of dollars wasted away with nothing to show in return except for annula hotel operasting deficits.

And the real insanity? This man wants to bring this type of defective financial expertise to the White House.

2) Most of the time when a politician puts his or her foot in their mouth it is silly, stupid, or inane. Sometimes, though, it is heartless, cruel, and pathetic. Such was the recent case when an Illinois Congressman, Luis Gutierrez, should have just shut up. Gutierrez is a big fan of illegal immigration and thus, is a big fan of so-called ”sanctuary cities.”

Sanctuary cities have openly declared that illegal immigrants are welcome within their city borders and that local governments will disobey Federal immigration laws concerning the arrest, detaining, and deportation of illegal immigrants. Unfortunately, a young American citizen, Kate Steinle, was murdered in a sanctuary city, San Francisco, by an illegal immigrant who had been convicted of seven felonies and had been deported five times.

This failure to execute Federal law resulted in this unnecessary death of a young American citizen, of which the Congressman had the following reaction: “Every time a little thing like this happens, they use the most extreme example to say [sanctuary cities] must be eliminated." Someone’s unnecessary death is a “little thing” to this cold hearted political bastard. I am sure that her murder was not a “little thing” to her parents, her brother, her boyfriend and her friends and other family members.

I am sure it would not be a “little thing” if it was his daughter who had been gunned down for no reason. This is how low the American political class has sunk, an American’s death is a “little thing” compared to their political plans and ambitions. Pathetic.

3) We have often lamented the sad lack of understanding and usually total ignorance politicians have when it comes to economic theory and consequences. They are like that Holiday Inn Express commercial campaign, they have no economic training or experience but think they can dictate rationale economic policy because they stayed in a Holiday Inn Express last night.

Nowhere is this ignorance been more prevalent lately than in the Seattle area where their political class recently voted to raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour. The selling point these politicians tried to make is that a $15 hourly wage would lift these workers out of poverty. But as always when politicians play economists, there are unintended bad consequences:

  • Many of the Seattle workers that will now get higher wages are pleading with their employers to give them LESS working hours since their higher wages and same working hours will leave them above the income line that makes them eligible for government welfare, food, and other assistance.
  • Of course, this was the whole purpose of those who advocated for higher wages, to get these workers off of the reliance and addiction to government handouts and welfare, lift them out of poverty.
  • But as is often the case, a political action has resulted in the exact OPPOSITE of what was intended.
  • For example, LA Mayor Eric Garcetti claimed recently that LA’s $15 minimum wage would lift 6000,000 people out of poverty, which is unlikely to happen if LA workers want to stay poor, work less hours, have a higher wage level, AND receive welfare.
  • Seattle’s KIRO-TV recently interviewed a nursing nonprofit organization and found that some workers are trying to cut hours and earn less to avoid losing government assistance. In another case, a local radio station has been talking about the story: “If they cut down their hours to stay on those subsidies because the $15 per hour minimum wage didn’t actually help get them out of poverty, all you’ve done is put a burden on the business and given false hope to a lot of people,” said KIRO-FM’s Jason Rantz said.
  • Restaurants in Seattle, the industry most affected by the $15 minimum wage level because of their tight operating margins, are either adding a hefty surcharge to their prices to cover the increased labor costs, closing down, or moving in order to stay in business.
  • Some Seattle restaurants who have closed down pointed out that the higher wage levels put their labor costs over 50% of their total operating costs, making their business unprofitable.
  • Other restaurants have started making employees pay for the food they eat at their place of business, which used to be free, in order to save costs.
  • Other businesses have taken away perks that used to be free but now cost employees since their employers have to cut costs to cover the higher labor costs. So the net/net of higher wages but fewer perks is a wash for employees, something those in favor of the higher wages never foresaw, likely because they are ignorant of basic economic theory and realities.
Thus, the minimum wage increases in certain cities are functioning much like the failed Obama Care legislation: much disruption in the lives of citizens and business owners, higher operating costs, fewer jobs, business closures, and ending up exactly where we started before the political class intervened in the marketplace. Sounds about right, insanity for no societal benefit.

More insanity for the next week or so in all kinds of areas, none of which makes any of our lives any better or less expensive.
