February, 2024, Part 4, Political Class Insanity: Biden Continues to Fail Everywhere and a Minnesota Politician Calls Americans Losers

Every month we devote posts to just general political class insanity that is running rampant through the country. The members of the American political class continue to show that they are incapable of operating any level of government in this country.

Even their best efforts are almost always inefficient and ineffective at resolving any problem facing Americans. They spend a great amount of time not trying to improve the lives of their citizens but continually ensuring their reelection and enriching themselves, their families, and their friends in the process, all at taxpayer expense.

1)Biden continues to disappoint on anything he touches. His latest embarrassment was related to the recent Super Bowl:

• Biden, or his staff, put out a video regarding snacks that one might be eating while watching the Super Bowl.
• Yes snacks,.
• Specifically, Biden said: "It’s Super Bowl Sunday, and if you’re anything like me, you like to be surrounded by a snack or two while watching the big game. You know, when buying snacks for the game, you might have noticed one thing: sports drinks bottles are smaller, [a] bag of chips has fewer chips, but they’re still charging just as much. Folks are calling it Shrinkflation and it means companies are giving you less for every dollar you spend. I’m calling on the big consumer brands to put a stop to it.”

Millions of Americans are homeless, hungry, fighting inflation, in need of drug addiction treatment, do not have health insurance, or are victims of the ever increasing national crime rates and this is Biden's concern, his bag of Doritos seems a little light. Horrible priorities.

2)Biden has lied many times in his past. He did not get arrested in South Africa while marching with Nelson Mandela …. like he said he did. He did not get a full scholarship for law school….like he said he did. He did not attend and graduate from a predominately black college …. like he said he did. In fact, we once conveniently laid out another 38 times he lied:

He recently told another massive and disgusting lie, a lie that is so easily checked for its falsehood that it indicates that he either holds our intelligence in total disregard or he is totally delusional in that he actually believes his lies.

Specifically: “Over 140 police officers were injured [on January 6th, 2021 at the Capitol building riot]. Jill and I attended the funerals of police officers who died as a result of the events of that day. Because of Donald Trump’s lies. They died because these lies that brought a mob to Washington.”

Here is the problem Joe: no police officers died that day in or around the Capital. No one. Not a single police officer. So what funeral(s) did he attend? There apparently is no news article that reports on Joe Biden attending any police officer funerals as a result of the incident.

Now, two officers died shortly after January 6th but from natural causes, not any incident at the Capitol building. Oh, by the way, there is no record Joe and Jill attended their funeral either.

We have said it before but it gets truer every day every time he speaks: we have a President who sees and talks to dead people, a President who lies about any and all topics and experiences, a President who is delusional, and a President who has access to the nuclear weapons of the country. Not a good combination.

3)American politicians are some of the biggest hypocrites in the world. They are all friendly and caring when their election is coming up but as soon as they win that election their concerns usually do not include the citizens they represent. Sometimes it is their need to take care of illegal immigrants vs. American citizens, funneling taxpayer money to feed, house, and service illegal immigrants while millions of Americans go hungry, homeless, and in need of government services. Sometimes it involves appointing their friends and political backers to lucrative government jobs regardless of whether or not those people are qualified.

And a Minnesota politician recently just belittled and insulted many Americans in and around his city:

• Jacob Frey is the mayor of Minneapolis, Minnesota.
• The good mayor is really irritated that some Americans continue to work at home even after the pandemic ended, a choice that he feels is economically hurting the businesses in his city.
• He recently spoke at the city’s Downtown Council annual meeting and praised the benefits of visiting and working in the city’s downtown area: “I don’t know if you saw this study the other day, what this study clearly showed… is that when people who have the ability to come downtown but don’t, when they stay home, sitting on their couch with their nasty cat blanket, diddlin’ on their laptop. If they do that for a few months, you become a loser. It’s a study. We’re not losers, are we?"

Nice way to motivate people, Mr. Mayor, calling them losers, diddlers on their computer, and hanging out with their nasty cat blanket. Insults always motivate people to do what you want them to do, right? I understand his desire to get people to visit his city, it is part of his job. But how stupid do you have to be to insult the very people you should be courting to do something for you?

By the way, it turns out that the study he referenced does not exist, it was just a lie and piece of fiction he made up to try and substantiate his idiocy. Also, Mr. Mayor, Given that your city has a crime rate of 66 per thousand residents, you preside over one of the highest city crime rates in the country. Maybe a better solution to calling people losers is to reduce your high crime rate so that they feel safe coming into the city. That is what a real leader would do, not what you did.

4)And the final bad news for today if you are an American consumer:

• The latest inflation readings from the Biden administration showed that overall inflation grew at a higher than expected 3.1% in January, more than 50% higher than what the Federal Reserve Board’s target inflation number is (2%).
• The core inflation rate was even worse, up 3.9%.
• These latest results show that in just three years, Biden’s economic policies have raised the overall cost of living for Americans by about 19%, a roughly 6% a year inflation rate.
• And lord forbid you need to avail yourself of services, e.g. auto repairs, health care, hotel rooms, concerts and other entertainment, since the annual inflation rate for services is up a whopping 5.3% on average, year over year.

So Americans are getting less and less value for their effort, whether it is Biden’s failed economic policies and resultant inflation eating away at their wealth or politicians giving away their wealth to feed, house, clothe , and service the millions of illegal immigrants Biden’s has allowed into the country.

That will do it for political class insanity today: Biden continues to fail at everything and a Minnesota politician calls Americans losers.

February, 2018, Part 6, Political Class Insanity: Pelosi Still Living In A Different Reality and FEMA and DHS Incompetence Shining Through Again

It is the beginning of another month which means it is again time to review the latest political class insanity from Washington and around the world. Political class insanity takes many forms including the wasting of taxpayer wealth, criminal fraud within government programs, inane and stupid political quotes and actions, the inability to create and implement effective and efficient government programs, stupid and ill performing economic policies and strategies, and other forms of insanity that continue to evolve and surprise and shock us.

Let's get started:

1) We have not reported on a good old fashioned government wasteful spending project so let’s review a doozy today. The Freedom Outpost website reported a recent FEMA screw up as reported by the New York Times:

• The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) contracted with a company owned by Dr. Tiffany Brown to provide 30 million meals to Puerto Rico in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria.
• The cost to taxpayers was $156 million.
• Unfortunately, Brown’s company, Tribute Contracting LLC, ended up delivering only 50,000 meals.
• By the way, Brown was the only employee of her company that had just received a $156 million government contract.
• Brown also runs three other companies including Tiffany Brown Designs (women’s clothing line), Tiffany Brown Holdings Inc. (a consulting firm that has five divisions: entertainment, vending, radio, food, nonprofit management and book publishing, and Luxe Fuel (a beverage delivery software app), leading one to believe that she may have not been the best, most experienced business person to deliver life saving meals to Puerto Rico.
• Not only did Brown have no experience in large scale disaster food relief but she had at least five canceled Federal government contracts in her past.
• She ended up hiring an Atlanta wedding caterer which had a staff of only 11 people in order to deliver the millions of meals she had been contracted to provide.
• By the time that 18.5 million meals were due for delivery Brown had only delivered 50,000, at which point her contract was terminated.
• To add to the insanity of the situation, Brown is now suing FEMA and the American taxpayer for $70 million for breach of contract.
• The New York Times summarized some of her past shenanigans: “The government has also canceled Tribute contracts on at least five occasions. Four cancellations involved the Federal Prison System, which found that Tribute failed to deliver meat, bakery, cereal and other food products to various correctional institutions. A fifth termination involved the Government Publishing Office, which terminated a contract for 3,000 tote bags after Tribute failed to print the Marine Corps logo on both sides of the bags. An investigation by the office’s inspector general found that Tribute “altered and submitted a false shipping document and subcontracted the predominant production function on two contracts without proper authorization,” according to a 2015 report submitted to Congress.”

And despite this pathetic history of wasting taxpayer money, FEMA STILL went ahead and granted her another big contract that, surprise, surprise, was another failure.

2) But as we all already know, FEMA is not the only inept Federal organization:

• According to Mark Swanson, writing for the NewsMax website on February 5, 2018, somehow a set of Department of Homeland Security (DHS) anti-terrorism documents were found by a CNN employee in a seat back pocket on a commercial airline flight.
• The documents were marked "for official use only" and "important for national security." 
• They contained strategies for after action government responses to a simulated biological attack.
• The documents apparently belonged to DHS microbiologist Michael Walter since his boarding pass and travel itinerary were attached to the secret government documents.
• A former DHS official, Juliette Kayyem, who is now employed by CNN, stated the obvious, that leaving the documents behind on a plane was a "really stupid thing:" "Who knows who else could have picked this up. The biggest consequence of this mistake may have less to do with terrorists knowing our vulnerabilities and more to do with confidence in the Department of Homeland Security. In the end, confidence in the federal government at a time of crisis is what the American public deserves."
• CNN reported that the documents showed shortcomings in local state, and Federal agencies responses to a potential attack in Minneapolis, the recent site of the Super Bowl.

So FEMA is stupid and wasteful when it comes to resolving a problem and DHS cannot keep secrets secret. Insanity.

3) We have discussed the many real benefits that the Trump tax cut has had on millions and millions of Americans:

• Hundreds, if not thousands, of American companies have given millions of Americans bonus checks of upwards of $3,000 as a result of the tax cut.
• Many companies have raised the minimum wage they pay their workers (e.g. Walmart, CVS, etc.) as a result of the tax cut.
• Over a hundred million taxpayers will see a reduction in their 2018 tax bills as a result of the tax cut.
• Companies have promised to increase their domestic spending on capital improvements, employee training, and donations to charities as a result of the tax cut.

Americans get to keep more of their hard earned money, great! Employees are getting higher wages, bonuses and more job training, great! Companies are bringing up home overseas earnings to invest in the domestic economy, great! Charities are seeing greater contributions from companies, great! 

Well not so great if you are Nancy Pelosi. According to a recent article by Caleeb Hull, writing for the Independent Journal Review on February 1, 2018, Pelosi characterized these benefits to the American worker and American economy as “crumbs”: “In terms of the bonus that corporate America receives versus the crumbs they are giving to workers to put the schmooze on is so pathetic.”

So, employees getting $1,00, $2,000, or possibly up to $3,000 in bonuses is crumbs? Families getting a doubling of the child care credit is crumbs? Employees saving on their taxes on every paycheck for at least eight years is crumbs? 

This idiotic response to the tax cuts raises two questions Ms. Pelosi:

1. Isn’t giving Americans “crumbs,” crumbs that were basically theirs to begin with before the government confiscated their “crumbs” via high taxes, better than nothing, which was the position of you and every other Democrat who voted against giving American back some of their hard earned wealth or crumbs?
2. Second, how is a tax cut and thousand dollar bonuses crumbs when back in 2012 you hailed the $40 tax cut you engineered several years ago as the best thing in the world: “160 million Americans will continue to receive their payroll tax cut — nearly $40 per paycheck in the pockets of the average family. I salute the work of the unified House Democratic caucus on behalf of the American people.” 

So the Trump tax cuts and the reduction in taxes every paycheck AND millions of Americans getting thousands dollar bonuses is crumbs but in your world $40 is worth saluting? I still wonder what the color of the sky is in Pelosi’s world because she is certainly not living in this world.

That will do it for today’s insanity: Pelosi is still living in another reality, FEMA is still inept when it comes to managing taxpayer wealth, and the DHS cannot keep a secret. More insanity to follow.

June, 2017, Part 9, Political Class Insanity: Congressional Crimes and Insanity and More

As we do every month, we review the latest idiocy, lunacy, ineptness, and general insanity from the American political class. We are getting started as little late this month since we needed to review the latest global warming.climate change insanity from the likes of Al Gore, culminating in our review of the 26 reasons why it was appropriate and necessary for Trump to pull us out of the Paris Climate Agreement:

But let’s quickly get into this month’s political class insanity because over the past month or so there has been a lot of it was Washington implodes into a useless pile of incompetence:

1) If Nancy Pelosi is the best source of political class insanity for this blog, Sheila Jackson Lee, a Congresswoman from Texas, might be a close runner up. This is a member of Congress who erroneously thinks that the Constitution is about 400 years old, who thinks that South Vietnam and North Vietnam STILL exist as separate countries, and who wondered out loud if a Mars on surface vehicle would be driving anywhere near where Neil Armstrong walked on the moon.

Joe Schoffstall, writing for the Washington Free Beacon on May 30, 2017, brings up to date with the latest political class insanity from Congresswoman Lee:

• According to research by the Washington Free Beacon, Lee allegedly and illegally used campaign funds to purchase tickets to the Super Bowl.
• She then posted pictures of herself partying at the Super Bowl on her website.
• The pictures were subsequently taken down once the Beacon report came out.
• The report found that almost $10,000 of campaign funds were allegedly used to purchase Super Bowl tickets: “Three days before the event, Jackson Lee's campaign disbursed $4,900 to 21st Century Fox for Super Bowl tickets. A second transaction was made days after the game when Jackson Lee's campaign reimbursed Gerald Womack, her campaign manager, $4,900 for tickets.”
• On the day of the Super Bowl, Lee posted a picture of herself at the stadium on her Instagram account:

• The photo was taken down soon after the Beacon went public with the campaign fund allegations.
• Since members of Congress are strictly prohibited from using campaign funds for personal use, the Congresswoman has some explaining to do.

Just another politician likely using and abusing the system and taxpayer wealth for their own greedy, unethical, and possibly illegal purposes.

2) Uncountable times we have pointed out how massive Federal government programs like Medicare and Social Security are so inept and infested with criminal fraud that untold trillions of dollars have likely been paid out incorrectly or criminally over the years. As a result, the programs are currently in fiscal distress and face massive problems in the coming years.

Unfortunately, it does not look like the politicians in Washington are getting the problem under control according to as recent report coming out of the Social Security Administration:

• A recent audit found that the Social Security Administration (SSA) erroneously paid out over $1 billion in benefits to people that did not have Social Security numbers.
• These are people that should not be able to get any kind of SSA benefits at all but instead the Federal bureaucracy gave them over $1 billion.
• According to the SSA inspector general: “[U]nless it [SSA] takes corrective action, we estimate SSA will pay about $182.5 million in benefits, annually, to representative payees who do not have an SSN or paper application supporting their selection.”
• Since 2004, the SSA has paid out $853.1 million to these so-called representative payees that had been terminated by the SSA.

Just another day and another couple of hundred billion taxpayer dollars down the drain due to political and bureaucratic bungling in D.C.

3) One last piece of political class insanity for today and for this month, I cannot take any more. This piece of insanity comes to us from the I Have The Truth website in an article written by Kay Francis on June 1, 2017:

• Although Alcee Hastings is only one of six Federal judges to ever be removed from his post by Congress, he is somehow currently a U.S. Congressman from Florida.
• His removal was the result of being busted for asking for a bribe of $150,000 in exchange for favorable treatment in a racketeering case that was before him in court.
• The House of Representatives voted 413 to 3 to have him removed from his judge position, kind of an overwhelming indictment of his guilt.
• Did I mention that even after this crime and removal from the bench he got elected to Congress?!
• He is again in trouble for shady dealings in that he has been giving his girlfriend the maximum allowed taxpayer funded salary for five years to “work” in his field office.
• Oh yeah, to work in is field office she received over $168,000 a year, three times the median household income.
• Oh yeah, he was also sued by Judicial Watch in their support of a former employee who accused him of repeated sexual harassment.
• Despite his despicable behavior over time, he had the nerve to accuse fellow Congressmen of being “nasty to the poor.”
• Hastings also employs the wife of a former staff person who has been convicted for money laundering.

Did I mention that he is currently serving in Congress despite the above infractions and crimes? Only in America.

Fighting Islamic Terrorism In the Wake Of Orlando, Part 3 - The Diplomatic, Humanitarian Solution

A few days ago we took some time to discuss the terrorist attack at a nightclub in Orlando a few weekends ago. We listed out a number of steps that needed to be taken in the short term, and extending into the long term, that would help prevent similar attacks in the future. These steps required extensive effort on behalf of the government and the Washington political class, something that neither has had the will or ability to do in the past. 

Instead, we get people like Obama and other liberals inside and outside of government that, as always, go to the knee jerk reaction of limiting Americans access to guns. As we pointed out yesterday, the 9-11 attackers did not storm the Twin Towers with AR 15 rifles, they used airplanes to carry their terror plans. The Boston Marathon bombers did not jump into a crowd in Boston and start shooting up the place, they used homemade bombs. Other terrorists here and around the world have used simple knives to kill in the name of radical Islamic terror.

We also pointed out that if a person wanted to carry out a terror attack, any new gun control laws passed by Washington would be nothing more than an inconvenience, if anyone wants a gun in this country, the drug cartels or other organized, and unorganized, criminal entity would be more than willing to make a few bucks by providing such weapons and guns. That is why the many suggestions we provided yesterday to attack the root causes of terrorism are far more important and more likely to be effective than window dressing gun control restrictions.

However, there has to be an overarching strategy to eliminate the terror threat from ISIS long term. While our suggestions from a few days ago would go a long way to help protecting us, a long term strategy to settle down the violence and hatred in the Middle East is required at the highest levels of diplomacy. That is where Obama needs to be concentrating as his Presidency winds down, putting together a long term plan, strategy, and way of life that brings all of the diplomatic players together in a grand coalition and effort that finally eliminates the root cause of the ISIS terror reign.

However, since he seems more interested in changing national bathroom policies, hosting Super Bowl teams at the White House, and hiking around a national park out west, two days ago we started the discussion on what the grand plan might look like, why it would work and how each interested party would have to give a little to get a lot, i.e. the end of the ISIS threat. To that end, we laid out the situational analysis on the ground in the Middle East, focusing on Syria, and what assumptions would go into formulating this overarching strategy.

In proposing this solution and plan, we realize that we are not trained diplomats. We have never held elected office. But we do realize that to have a final plan in any facet of life, you have to have at least a preliminary plan that is tweaked, negotiated, adjusted over time, etc. And since Obama, John Kerry, et al do not appear to have the will or have the ability to develop a plan, they are more than free to start with ours, as laid out below.

As we see it, and as we laid it out two days ago, there are nine major players involved in the mess in Syria with ISIS:

1. ISIS - the most ruthless, heartless, and well financed Islamic terror group ever, currently dominating large parts of Syria and Iraq, composed mostly of Sunni Muslims.
2. The United States - because we stick our noses into everything and the rise of ISIS was facilitated by the Obama administration.
3. Syria - or what is left of it, headed up by Assad, a Shiite Muslim.
4. Russia - an ally of Assad.
5. Iran - a Shiite dominated country and ally of Assad.
6. Iraq - a Shiite dominated country and an ally of Assad and Iran.
7. Turkey - bordering Syria, anti-Assad, and an ISIS sympathizer.
8. Saudi Arabia - and other Sunni Muslim Gulf states who are at least ISIS sympathizers.
9. Kurds - Anti-ISIS fighters with the majority of Kurds living in northern Iraq and who want their own country.

Each of these nine players have to be an important piece of the final solution, a solution that gives everyone of them something but gives none of them everything.

The overarching strategy and sequence of events goes as follows:

• A multi-national coalition of military forces is created with the sole purpose of defeating and dismantling ISIS, similar to what the first Bush presidency put together to free Kuwait from Iraq 25 years ago.
• Part of this military effort involves creating a safe zone for refugees in northern Iraq and eastern Syria, currently occupied by ISIS.
• This safe zone would expand as ISIS is pushed back from its current borders.
• As the safe zone is expanding, the United Nations steps in, with financing from every other country, to provide shelter and food and to start the reconstruction process. 
• Once ISIS is defeated militarily, a new country is created out of the northern part of Iraq and eastern part of Syria and run by Sunni Muslims.
• Assad is allowed to stay in power in Syria but with a greatly reduced country that is Shiite dominated.
• Russia would still have access to the Syrian ports that they crave.
• Iran, Russia, and Iraq are allowed to build a Shiite pipeline for their oil and natural gas through whatever part of what used to be Syria they want.
• The Saudis and other Sunni Gulf nations are also allowed to build a Sunni pipeline for their oil and natural gas through whatever part of what used to be Syria they want.
• A to-be-determined tariff would be placed on any oil and natural gas that flows through either pipeline and be used to help rebuild the cities and infrastructure in both the new Sunni nation and parts of old Iraq that were destroyed by the ISIS fight.
• As reward for helping to fight ISIS, the Kurds would have their own country carved out of territory in northern Iraq.
• As all of this is going on, the new Sunni nation would be a United Nations protectorate as it regains its ability to be a functioning government and society.
• Free passage back to the area would be provided for all refugees that fled the civil war and the ISIS terrorist group.

Okay, who wins and who loses under a diplomatic coup like this:

- ISIS is a big loser since it no longer exists with most, if not all, of its fighters and leaders killed or put on trial for crimes against humanity.

- The United States reengages militarily in the Middle East, historically not a good thing, costing America more money and lives. But its military mission would be focused solely on the defeat of ISIS and the short term protection of this new Sunni nation until a United Nations military force takes over permanently. In return, the U.S. lessens its refugee problem and associated costs, freeing up these costs to boost our homeland security, and reducing the threat of domestic and foreign terrorism on our shores. In addition, it helps destroy the ISIS terrorist organization that it had helped create.

- Assad gets to stay alive and in power but with a greatly reduced nation, territory, and power but the threat of ISIS on his remaining power and territory eliminated.

- Russia still has an ally, Assad in power even if the size of his country is greatly reduced, and still has access to the Syrian ports, but would have to face the reality that the Saudis and other Gulf Sunni nations do get their own pipeline for their oil and natural gas resources.

- Iran gets to keep their Shiite ally, Assad, in power, they get their Shiite pipeline through Syria but their pipeline has to pay a tariff to help finance the reconstruction of the devastated areas in the new Sunni nation and Iraq and they also have to compete with the Sunni pipeline.

- Iraq gets to keep their Shiite ally, Assad in power, they get rid of ISIS which has been terrorizing the country for years, they get a Shiite pipeline through Syria but their pipeline has to pay a tariff to help finance the reconstruction of the devastated areas in the new Sunni nation and Iraq and they also have to compete with the Sunni pipeline.

- Turkey gets to help create a Sunni friendly nation on its borders vs. having Assad’s Syria on its border but has to contend with a new nation on its other border that was created for the hated Kurds. Obviously, something else on the positive side of the ledger would have to be thrown in to get their support.

- The Saudis and other Sunni Gulf nations get to see the power of their arch enemy Assad greatly reduced and get to build their Sunni pipeline through Syria but but their pipeline has to pay a tariff to help finance the reconstruction of the devastated areas in the new Sunni nation and Iraq and they also have to compete with the Shiite pipeline.

- The Kurds get their own country but lose any oil industry subsidies they were receiving by being a part of Iraq, they would have to accept Kurd immigrants from any other country, and would have stringent conditions imposed on them to discourage any Kurd terrorists attacks within Turkey as what has happened in the past.

As you can see, in our proposed solution, every player gets something they want but also gets things they do not want or things that they cannot have. That is the art of negotiation and diplomacy. You get your own pipeline but your enemy/competitor also gets a pipeline. You get to stay in power but in power over a greatly reduced territory. As you can see above, everyone of the players gets something positive but we have highlighted the BUT in all of their arrangements, meaning they did not get everything. But everyone gets the elimination of ISIS which makes the world a much safer place to be.

This solution also provides a wonderful opportunity for the United Nations to prove that it is a viable and positive organization for humanity. I do not think I can remember anytime in my life when the United Nations was so impotent and so unnecessary in the face of a dangerous world. 

If it could become the force that unites the world and starts the rebuilding of societies in war torn Syria and Iraq, providing humanitarian aid, providing safe zones, helping to rebuild whole cities, stationing military forces to help implement the diplomatic solution, it would regain some of its credibility and show it continues to deserve our tax dollars. If it fails, then I really do not see a use for it going forward since I would dare anyone to show me how it justifies its huge budget year in and year out without providing any tangible results.

That’s our proposed plan. You may not like it but at least it’s a plan, which puts us eons ahead of Obama and John Kerry. Our plan can be adjusted, tweaked, implemented in stages and then adjusted some more, it is tangible. Obama and Kerry have nothing that can be started, adjusted, tweaked, or what is tangible. 

But at least we are having public bathroom discussions as a result of the Obama administration. At least the Super Bowl champs, the Denver Broncos, got to visit Obama at the White House. At least the President got to visit our natural parks out west. 

Obama is all about building his narcissistic legacy. What better legacy opportunity than this, to bring peace and harmony to a major cesspool of terror and destruction? Even Jimmy Carter pulled something off like this decades ago when he got Israel and Egypt to play nice together, that effort still lives on today. Succeeding in this effort, with or without our plan, would dwarf this Carter success. 

That is what the President should be working on, not the trivial stuff that gives him photo opportunities at every turn. Give us a plan, Mr. President, any plan is better than no plan.

The Obama Era, Part 6 - Memories From The Worst Presidency Ever?

Late last year I thought it might be a good time to review everything that I remember about the Obama administration. He has been in office for seven years, seven long years that in my opinion have been horrific in so many ways. This was someone who entered office with approval ratings that were above 70% and who represented the so-called“hope and change” that many Americans were seeking.

Seven years later hope has become very scarce and change has almost always been for the worst. Now, before someone says that I am just a sour grapes Republican, conservative, or neo-con, understand that I have never voted for a Republican for President in my life (I started voting in the 1970s). Up until 2010, I had never voted for Republican for national office in my life. I fully support gay rights and respect a woman’s legal right to an abortion. Thus, none of what you are about to read over the next few days comes from a Republican sour grapes perspective.

But unless you have had completely had your head in the sand or elsewhere, this has been the worst Presidency that I have experienced in my lifetime. From horrid legislation (e.g. Obama Care) to a failed foreign policy (e.g. Syria) to daily lawlessness on the part of this administration (e.g. use of unsecured email accounts by high ranking administration members), the ineptness and ineffectiveness of this administration is mind boggling.

So what else will I remember from this Presidency in addition to the horror stories and disasters we already talked about, starting with the link listed above:

- I will remember this President continually telling me that Islam is totally good even though 450 out of 452 suicide bomber incidents worldwide last year were executed by Muslim suicide bombers.

- I will remember this President continually telling me that Islam is totally good even though Islamic radicals were responsible for the USS Cole bombing, the U.S. embassy bombings in Africa, the first World Trade Center attack, the second World Trade Center attack, the nightclub attacks in Bali, the recent attack in Paris, the mass shooting in San Bernardino, California, the armed services recruitment center attacks in Tennessee, the Fort Hood terror attack, the enslavement of women and children across the Middle East, the kidnapping and enslavement of children in Nigeria, the killing of homosexuals across the Middle East for simply being gay, etc.

- I will remember this President attending an Islamic mosque in Baltimore but attending any Christian churches or Jewish synagogues.

- I will remember how this President continues to insist that Muslims have been woven into the fabric of this country from the beginning but never provides any examples of great/epic Muslim Americans, probably because there are not any.

- I will remember this President issuing a Tweet on the White House Twitter account that had a picture of him throwing a football on Super Bowl Sunday as if he has any football ability.

- I will remember an Israeli public opinion poll that showed how very little respect the Israeli citizens have for this Presidency vs. previous Presidencies.

- I will remember how this Presidency illegally and secretly purged DHS ISIS files to hide the truth of how dangerous the ISIS movement is to Americans’ safety.

- I will remember how despite the reality that this Presidency will double the national debt in just eight years, by incurring a whopping $10 TRILLION in debt, and how the Federal government under this President continues to lose at least $600 billion a year from fraud and incompetence, this President still wants to raise taxes in 2017 and NOT cut spending.

- I will remember how this President became the first President ever to be sued in order to find out how much the American taxpayer actually has paid for his lavish and frequent vacations.

- I will remember how this Presidency was so lame in managing and enforcing our immigration laws that 500,000 foreign visitors overstayed their visa requirements in 2015.

- I will remember how this President illegally and unilaterally exempted the White House Office of Administration from Freedom Of Information Act requests.

I will remember a lot about this Presidency, almost all of it very forgettable, regrettable and often disgusting. And unfortunately, I will still have more bad memories to review tomorrow.

May, 2013 Political Class Insanity, Part 4: Unchained Regulators, Wasteful Concrete Toilets, And More

This is a fourth in a series of posts that cover the political class insanity we have come across over just the past month or so. Every month it seems that the idiocy and lunacy coming out of the politicians in this country gets worse and more abundant, destroying wealth and freedom in the process.

As you read through these embarrassments, consider the need for term limits, as laid out in Step 29 of “Love My Country, Loathe My Government.” How much worse could it get if we replaced all those in office with new people, given the insanity they constantly rain down on us?

Today’s episode of insanity will focus on items from the latest issue of Reason magazine. Reason does an outstanding job of doing in depth research and analysis of politics and the issues facing the country, often exposing stupidity and insanity and providing solutions to problems that constantly elude our politicians.

1) The May, 2013 issue of Reason did a fabulous job analyzing the total failure of Obama’s economic stimulus program, a program that burned through over $800 billion worth of taxpayer wealth with no real economic societal benefits in return. We will do an in-depth review of their analysis in the near future, an analysis that is as thorough as it it damning of the stimulus program in total.

But today, consider some more of the moronic programs that the American taxpayer funded and the overall results:

- The Obama administration approved a grant worth $462,912.30 to a Spokane, Washington company to build and install 22 precast concrete toilets in the Mark Twain National Forest in Missouri. Two pieces of insanity here:

• How does building 22 toilets in the middle of Missouri create long term, sustainable jobs and economic growth?
• 22 toilets at a cost of over $462,000 comes out to a per toilet cost of about $21,000? What toilet in what reality is worth $21,000?

Insanity.

- But apparently toilets were a recurring theme in the stimulus program. The state of New Mexico got $2.8 million to spend on new toilets in its park system while another $42 million in stimulus funds went to Alaska to upgrade toilets and other sanitation facilities in Alaska.

- A comprehensive follow up survey described in the Reason article found that:

• A whopping 59% of the companies that received stimulus funds did not hire a single worker despite the fact that the whole purpose of the stimulus program was to get people employed.
• Additionally, 12% of the companies surveyed said they laid off the people they hired as a result of the stimulus funding once the funding was exhausted.
• 6% of the companies surveyed said they kept only some of the employees they hired as a result of stimulus funding.
• Thus, 77% of the companies that received stimulus funding either did not hire anyone or their hires were short term.

Failure after failure after failure.

2) One of the main culprits in the country’s anemic economic performance over the past few years is likely the imposition of unneeded and unwarranted regulations that divert attention, money, and resources away from growing the economy to satisfying mostly unneeded government regulations. Consider what the Obama administration has done to burden the economy over the past few years:

• Obama did make a big deal when he came into office to get overly burdensome regulations off of the government’s list, stating that we needed to rid the books of “outmoded regulations,” we need to go about “reducing costs and simplifying and harmonizing rules,” and put in place regulations that were “more effective or less burdensome.” All worthy goals.
• However, while his administration did reduce existing regulations in 2012 that wiped out $2.5 billion worth of burden on the economy, his administration added $236 billion MORE in economic burdens, as measured by the American Action Forum.
• Their analysis identified the EPA as the main culprit, incurring $172 billion worth of economic burden out of the $236 billion.
• They estimated that Obama Care will require that 44 million hours of work be needed to comply with its regulations every year from businesses and individuals.
• The Dodd-Frank legislation will require an additional 32 million hours worth of compliance time every year.
• These additional 76 million hours will take time away from growing and improving the economy, creating wealth and jobs in the process.
• These 76 million hours will be done in the name of two massive government bureaucracies that have virtually no chance of being successful.
• These new regulations will crush many small businesses that do not have the time, money, and resources to comply, further dragging down the economy.

I am sure that some big government advocates will argue that every government regulation is needed. However, I would refer them to a post we did in January,

which looked at some detailed and stupid government regulations. The most inane one was the fact that the Federal government maintains a 244 word regulation on how to label a frozen turkey. Not how to freeze it, not how to transport it, not how to store it, but how to label it.

Ridiculous regulation, as is most other government regulations that do nothing to keep us safe and have everything to do with keeping a government worker employed.

3) Political class insanity is not restricted to just Washington politicians and government, it infests state and local government also. A Reason article in the latest issue reviewed a Utah state law that prohibited restaurant patrons from ordering an alcoholic drink prior to putting in their meal order.

Yes, a current Utah law prohibits serving alcohol “except in connection with an order of food.” Thus, it is illegal in Utah to order a drink in a restaurant five minutes prior to telling the waiter what you want to eat but it is legal to order an alcoholic drink five minutes later at the same time you put your meal order in. Insanity, but a law that apparently is actually enforced, according to the article, resulting in fines that could range from $300 to $5,000 and suspension of a restaurant's liquor license.

Not only is this a stupid law in itself but it is also stupid in that it requires tax payer money to be used to hire inspectors that actually go around to enforce this stupidity. Inane regulations at the state government level by state level politicians.

4) Getting back to Federal regulations, according to existing Federal law, any new government regulations are supposed to go through a public review process called “notice and comment” in order to get input and feedback form the public on the possible ramifications and downsides of new government regulations.

But there is a loophole to this law called the “good cause exemption.” This exemption allows a Federal entity to bypass this notice and comment requirement when it, and only it, determines if a new regulation’s notice and comment option would be impractical or harmful.

Thus, we end up with Federal organizations regulating themselves, never a good thing in a democracy that strives for limited government. According to a study done by the General Accountability Office, from 2003 to through 2010, about 35% of major government rules and regulations (those having an impact of over $100 million) were not subjected to review and comment, a disgrace in itself.

However, in the past few years that percentage has risen to 40% and in 2009 and 2010 the Federal government set records for the most major rules not subjected to comment and review periods. Thus, Obama’s promise that he would operate the most transparent administration in history continues to fall apart in reality and more and more government operations are conducted in secret.

5) Myles Wilkinson of British Columbia beat out 4 million other fantasy football league players to win an all expense paid trip to the Super Bowl earlier this year, certainly the life long dream of many a football fan. However, when he tried to enter the country, U.S. Customs agents prevented his entry because he had been convicted of possessing a mere two grams of marijuana 32 years ago in 1981. 32 years ago. Apparently, he had not run afoul of any law since then but still, the Federal government would not allow him entry to see the Super Bowl.

Talk about petty, talk about bad government and political priorities. Millions of people have illegally entered the country over the years through our leaky borders, many of whom were criminal elements. But when a law abiding person legally tries to enter the country on a temporary basis, we throw him out because of something he did 32 years ago. Something that probably millions of Americans do every week. Ridiculous.

Okay, enough for today. We are working through the backlog of insanity but more to come tomorrow. Of special interest tomorrow will be a review of a current Washington politician who claims she has super powers in that she is indispensable to her constituents. Ego unchained and more tomorrow.
