September, 2014 I Am A Global Warming Doubter and A Believer In Science, Part 1: The Arctic Ice Cap Is Growing and Other Climate Change Realities

On a semi-regular basis we have taken an in-depth look at ALL pertinent and relevant global warming/climate change data, statistics, trends, and science under the theme, “I am a global warming doubter and a believer in science.” It was our feeling and position that the people who believed and supported the theory that humanity’s actions was causing global warming and climate change were not being completely honest in their discussion.

It seemed that they were cherry picking information to prove their point rather than looking at all of the information available to reach a scientifically sound basis. To make matters worse, their attitudes to towards those of us that were believers in science but were skeptical about the whole global warming thesis to be honest with you just ticked us off. People like Al Gore go about bashing folks like ourselves, calling them ignorant of science, racists, homophobes, and other derogatory names just because we want to look at the entire picture, just not a slanted, narrow and quite possibly incorrect view of reality.

Past discussions under this theme in this blog can be accessed by entering “I am a global warming doubter” in the search box above. By reviewing those discussions and posts with an open mind, you will find that the science on man made global warming/climate change is far from settled, contrary to the views of global warming advocates. That conclusion is further verified by the latest research and realities that will be discussed below in today’s post and probably over the next few days.

1) One of the things that drive us doubters crazy is the denial of reality by the people like Al Gore that refuse to look at real life data and realities that are contrary to their views. Even when reality smacks them in the face, even when their forecasted events never take place, they still cling to their narrow view of science and data to prove they were never wrong about global warming.

About seven years ago, Al Gore predicted that things were getting so bad that global warming could lead to the Arctic ice cap being “completely gone” by the year 2014.

Well, since it is now 2014 and the ice cap is still with us, this is another global warming prediction that proved to be false. In fact, according to scientific sources and data cited in a recent article in the UK’s Daily Mail newspaper, the Arctic ice cap is actually expanding rapidly, not shrinking rapidly:
  • According to the article, the Arctic ice cap has expanded by 41% over the past two years.
  • If this is indeed true, the ice cap has made up all of the ice mass which it lost between 2009 and 2012.
  • The article claims that satellite images show that the summer Arctic ice cap is thicker and covers 1.7 million square kilometers more than just two years ago.
  • This area is twice the size of Alaska.
  • The satellite images taken from University of Illinois's Cryosphere project, using daily satellite readings issued by the US National Snow and Ice Data Center, verify this finding.
  • The latest readings of the ice cap size were highest levels recorded since 2006.
  • The article goes on to cite other sources including the Danish Meteorological Institute whose analysis and data indicate that the growth has been even more dramatic.
  • Using a different measurement, the Danish Meteorological Institute that the ice cap has grown by 63% in size and is thicker than in the recent past, making it less susceptible to future melting.
Now, some global warming advocates might shoot the messenger here, the Daily Mail, since it is not a part of the “mainstream” U.S. press. But given the sourced data and information, shouldn’t a true believer in science investigate the claims to be sure that critical data and realities are not excluded from the discussion?

But if people like Al Gore did indeed look at ALL data and all science, then they might prove that their views were wrong and that usually is a truth a global warming advocate usually cannot handle.

The entire Daily Mail article can be accessed at:

2) A Senate minority report on global warming/climate change was recently published by the U.S. Senate Environment and Public Works Committee on September 4, 2014: “Critical Thinking on Climate Change - Empirical Evidence to Consider Before Taking
Regulatory Action and Implementing Economic Policies.”
The report is a comprehensive review of the latest science and realities as it applies to the global warming/climate change debate in Washington.

The document is well sourced, easy to read despite a lot of the science referenced and is the type of information that should be used to formulate scientifically based legislation. The entire publication can be accessed at:

Rather than try to explain all ninety or so pages of the research, I will give you the highlights below and allow you to dive deeper in to the publications' findings, research, and conclusions on your own.

Top line conclusions on our changing climate dispute the assertions of people like Al Gore:
  • Rising sea levels due to climate change? Nope, sea levels are stable.
  • Increased frequency of wildfires due to climate change? Nope, the incidence rate of wildfires is down.
  • More severe weather due to climate change? Nope, sever weather frequency is normal.
  • Increased frequency and intensity of hurricanes due to climate change? Nope, frequency and intensity of hurricanes are down.
  • Dwindling number of polar bears due to climate change? Nope, no discernible drop in populations of polar bears,
  • Increased accuracy of climate change computer forecasting models? Nope, models get worse and worse as time goes by in their predictive accuracy.
The publication also takes a look at what is happening in other countries relative to climate change:

1. Australia repealed their carbon tax after the severe and negative economic consequences of such regulation was recognized.

2. Australia is now investigating serious concerns with corruption of the temperature records to falsely and artificially produce a warming trend that did not exist. The publication points out that it is important to note that similar charges and concerns have been raised with in other countries and with other scientists who were caught and/or accused of changing real life data to better fit their non-real life models and hypotheses.

3. The economic impacts in European Union countries that adopted climate regulations, including Germany, Italy, Spain, and the United Kingdom have been disastrous. Serious concerns are now being raised over the economic viability of their manufacturing sectors as well as budget and energy poverty concerns.

4. The poor and elderly are suffering the worst consequences from
these policies.

5. India has since identified Greenpeace as an economic threat,
with Greenpeace long having a record of making significant, scientifically implausible claims.

6. China and India, the two countries whose economic growth is resulting in the bigger and bigger use of coal for power, have indicated that they will not attend the UN summit conference in New York City this year.

7. Only 11 of the 144 original parties to the Kyoto Protocol have thus far signed an extension.

Thus, two overall conclusions drop out of this effort, conclusions that are not at all different than the conclusions we have already come to a number of times in previous posts based on different scientific data and realities:
  1. All of the dire predictions of people like Al Gore, relative to man made activities and the negative effects on the earth’s health, have not come true.
  2. Even if the U.S. was to embark on a sever climate change/carbon footprint reduction effort, any savings in the world’s overall carbon footprint in this country would be substantially offset by the increased carbon footprint of other countries who are increasing their use of carbon intensive coal (e.g. China and India), not signing up for the Kyoto protocol extension, and who are backing off other carbon reduction activities because of economic hardships
Thus, the U.S. would be severely crimping our economy well being for a problem that might not even exist in the face of other countries who do not care.

That will do it for today. More realities relative to the Arctic ice cap and a well sourced, well written review of today’s global warming/climate change reality prove once again that it is perfectly logical and sane to be a global warming doubter and a believer in science, despite what Al Gore thinks and what slurs he might cast.

And the best news for doubters: we are not done with this update. We will need at least one more day to further prove that doubters are realists that look at all science and all realities.
