December, 2018, Part 2, Why I Am A Global Warming Doubter and A Believer In Science: Reviewing The Horrible Track Record Of Global Warming Forecasting

Every month we have enough material to return to a continuing theme in this blog, namely that “I am a global warming doubter AND a believer in science.” This became of interest because of people like Al Gore who fanatically and verbosely claimed that you had to be an idiot to not believe in manmade global warming. It has been my life belief that anyone that is that loud and that obnoxious is hiding something, that rather than argue facts and reality it is better to beat down and insult anyone who disagrees.

As we have dove into the whole issue of man made global warming, or its new rebranded title of climate change, we found that Al Gore and people like him were guilty of a number of things:
  • Ignoring science and realities that did not support their opinions and positions.
  • Rather than have an adult conversation about climate, these types of advocates like Gore sank to the level of insulting those who dared look at ALL science by calling them a variety of names including racists, homophobes, terrorists, flat earth believers, and other slanderous names.
  • Continuing to insist that politicians step up their intrusions into our lives with higher taxes, more regulations, and more control on our freedoms and standards of living based on a shaky theory at best.
To see the past posts and the multitude of evidence that we have compiled that showed it is perfectly okay to be a global warming doubter and a believer in science, enter the phrase "global warming doubter” in the search box above or go through the monthly historical post listed on the right side of this page.

Thus, let’s see the latest facts and science that prove you can be a global warming doubter and a believer in science, regardless of what Al Gore proclaim.

1) Looks like today we will focus on predictions made by global warming advocates with the end result no unsurprisingly being how very wrong these predictions ALWAYS are. Let’s start off with some research done by Michael Haverluck of the One News Now website:
  • On December 13, 2008, Al Gore warned the world in a speech in Germany that the North Pole would be devoid of ice in Five years.
  • Specifically, “The entire North ‘polarized’ cap will disappear in five years.”
  • TEN years later, there is still a lot of ice at the North Pole, even in the summer.
  • According to Jim Hoft of the Gateway Pundit website, Gore had actually starting making that prediction at least one year before the Germany speech.
  • Thus, we should be at least five years into an ice free pole.
  • He hedged his bet in 2009 when he added a 75% chance of an ice free North pole within five to seven years: “Some of the models suggest that there is a 75-percent chance that the entire north polar ice cap – during some of the summer months – could be completely ice-free within the next five to seven years.”
  • Obviously that did not happen or even come close to happening.
  • Back in January 2006, a full twelve years ago, Gore predicted that, “Within the next 10 years, the world will reach a point of no return [and] a true planetary emergency [due to global warming].”
  • The article points out that, “However, according to the Danish Meteorological Institute, there has been no trend in Arctic sea ice for the past 12 years.”
Fortunately, we did pass both his ten years and point of no return and it looks like we will survive, no thanks to his alarmist forecasts that were absolutely pitiful in predicting the future.

2) The above article points out that Gore was not just pathetically wrong on his North Pole forecasts. According to the same article, Gore was grossly wrong in eight predictions from his global warming alarmist movie, “An Inconvenient Truth,” as pointed out by a January, 2016 article on The Blaze website:

1- Gore predicted in the movie that sea levels could rise 20 feet higher due to the melting of the South Pole and Greenland ice sheets. But in reality, the South Pole ice sheets is actually INCREASING in ice volume and there has not been an increase or excessive ice melting from Greenland. As far as the sea level rising, not even close to 20 feet. 0 for 1 on predictions.

2- Gore claimed that CO2 would lead to dramatic rises in the Earth’s overall temperature as did most climate forecasts (which also always wrong.) Satellite data shows that the Earth’s temperatures stabilized about 19 years ago despite untold amounts of CO2 being thrown into the air from mankind’s carbon usage. 0 for 2 on predictions.

3- After Hurricane Katrina, global warming alarmists predicted that the fury of Katrina would be the new norm in hurricane ferocity due to global warming. And then we went over a dozen years with very little hurricane activity, the longest drought in hurricane history. 0 for 3 on predictions.

4- Not only were hurricanes supposed to get more frequent and harsher, the same was predicted on tornadoes. However, the number of devastating tornadoes has actually been declining over the past 60 years, especially the past three years, the exact opposite of what global warming advocates predicted. 0 for 4 on predictions.

5- Global warming was supposed to be killing off the polar bear population since it was robbing them of their cold habitation areas. And yet, according to population counts, there are probably more polar bears alive today then when most of us were born. Natives to the northern realms, the government of Nunavut and Inuit hunters, testify that indeed there are a lot more polar beavers wandering around up north. 0 for 5 on predictions.

6- Polar bears were supposed to be getting rarer and rarer because the Arctic ice was melting. And yet, in 2015 the Arctic ice cap saw the largest refreezing in over ten years. 0 for 6 on predictions.

7- Gore predicted that the Sahel area south of the Sahara Desert was supposed to get drier and drier because of global warming. However, according to satellite images, the Sahel is one of the areas on Earth that has gained the most vegetation growth in the world. The theory is that increased amounts of CO2 in the air, which is vital to plant growth, is responsible for more vegetation growth. a good thing. 0 for 7 on predictions.

8- Al Gore and his types have claimed that CO2 is absolute pollution and poison and needs to be contained and reduced by mankind. However, as the Sahel proves and we have discussed many times before in this blog, increases in the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere is strongly correlated with higher and higher crop yields and vegetation growth around the world. So much for pollution and poisoning. 0 for 8 on predictions.

As we have said so many times before, and proven again by the eight failed predictions listed above, every major and minor global warming prediction has been miserably wrong at predicting reality. Which is probably why the global warming advocates rebranded their vendetta from “global warming” to “climate change.” They did such a miserable job predicting the effects of global warming, they needed a fresh start of hysteria to promote, the nebulous term “climate change,” which can mean anything they want it to be.

Too much cold weather? Man made climate change! Too much hot weather? Man made climate change! Too many hurricanes? Man made climate change! Too few hurricanes? Man made climate change! And yet, people like Al Gore still try to convince us that they know best, that they are smarter than us in predicting the future of climate even though their track record is abysmal.

Which brings us to the latest prediction of climate gloom and doom that the Federal government recently released. Why should we believe that this prediction is any better, given the horrible track record of climate forecasting? That will be the subject of our discussion over the next few posts.

August, 2015, Part 2,I Am A Global Warming Doubter and Believer In Science: More Arctic Ice, A Nobel Prize Winner Debunks Obama and More

Every month we have enough material to return to a continuing theme in this blog, namely that “I am a global warming doubter AND a believer in science.”This became of interest because of people like Al Gore who fanatically and verbosely claimed that you had to be an idiot to not believe in manmade global warming. It has been my life belief that anyone that is that loud and that obnoxious is hiding something, that rather than argue facts and reality it is better to beat down and insult anyone who disagrees.

As we have dove into the whole issue of manmade global warming, or its new rebranded title of climate change, we found that Al Gore and people like him were guilty of a number of things:

Thus, let’s see the latest facts and science that prove you can be a global warming doubter and a believer in science, regardless of what Al Gore proclaims

1) Yesterday we discussed the reality that the Arctic ice cap has been growing in size and volume over the past few years, dispelling any lingering doubts that global warming could reduce the ice cap to only water within five years.

This reality was driven home again when a recent global warming research effort to the Arctic by the Canadian icebreaker CCGS Amundsen was terminated because the ice breaker had to be taken off of the study and sent to get several supply ships unfrozen from Arctic ice. Yes, there was too much ice up by the North Pole for freighters to navigate freely, hardly a sign of a disappearing ice cap that Al Gore predicted just six years ago.

According to Johnny Leclair, assistant commissioner for the Coast Guard, ice conditions in this Arctic area are the worst he's seen in 20 years. This was apparently the first time ever that the Amundsen has had to be diverted away from a science mission to go break up ice. Those in charge of the scientific expedition announced that some of the planned experiments and measurements, four years in the planning, will be delayed or terminated altogether as a result of the delay.

The UK Register reported: “The Arctic ice cap has not, contrary to the predictions of climate alarmists, completely disappeared: in fact it has been growing rapidly, increasing by an entire third just in 2013 and more since.” The BBC has also recently published updated research which has confirmed the Arctic ice's remarkable comeback over the last couple of years.

But the growing ice situation must be really bad since news reports indicate that two more icebreakers are heading toward the upper Hudson Bay to relieve the Amundsen.

2) Al Gore and Barack Obama like to degenerate any discussion of manmade global warming and climate change into a name calling, condescending, insult match between themselves, who fancy themselves as believers in science, and the heathens that dare to disagree with their position. Thus, it is always refreshing when we are able to present real scientists that agree it is perfectly logical to be a global warming doubter and a believer in science vs. politicians that parade around as if they are scientists.

Which is exactly what happened recently when a Nobel Prize laureate recently announced that global warming is non-existent. Dr. Ivar Giaever and more than 70 Nobel Science Laureates had actually endorsed Barack Obama for President back in 2008 but seven years later, he now stands against the Obama on the global warming issue.

According to Giaever: “I would say that basically global warming is a non-problem.” Giaever, who won the Nobel for physics in 1973, told this to an audience at the Lindau Nobel Laureate meeting earlier this month. He actually made fun of Obama’s statement that “no challenge poses a greater threat to future generations than climate change,” calling it a “ridiculous position” and claiming that Obama “gets bad advice” when it comes to global warming. Giaever went to to say: “I say this to Obama: Excuse me, Mr. President, but you’re wrong. Dead wrong.”

Giaever was once a professor at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute’s School of Engineering and School of Science and received the Nobel Prize for physics for his work on quantum tunneling. Giaever said he was “horrified” about the science surrounding global warming when he conducted research on the subject in 2012. Giaever resigned from the American Physical Society in 2011 when the Society stated that “the evidence is incontrovertible … [g]lobal warming is occurring.”

At that time, Giaever opined that “Global warming really has become a new religion. Because you cannot discuss it. It’s not proper. It is like the Catholic Church.” Giaever based his views on his own knowledge and the reality that there’s been no global warming for the last 18 years or so, weather hasn’t gotten more extreme and that global temperature has only slightly risen, based on data being “fiddled” with by scientists, he said: “When you have a theory and the theory does not agree with the experiment, then you have to cut out the theory. You were wrong with the theory.”

So who are you going to believe? A real scientist and Nobel winner like Giaever or Holiday Inn Express scientists like Gore and Obama?

3) We will finish up this month’s update on how it is logical to be a global warming doubter AND a believer in science with a little levity. Check out the following video clip and see how a comedian shows more logic, grasp of reality, and truth than Al Gore and all other global warming advocates combined:

http://www.youngcons.com/didnt-see-this-coming-comedian-goes-on-epic-rant-against-global-warming-and-alarmists-cant-stop-laughing/

I am assuming we will be back to this topic next month with more science, more data, and more realities to prove that Al Gore and Barack Obama are on the wrong side of science when it comes to man made global warming and climate change.

August, 2015, Part 1, I Am A Global Warming Doubter and A Believer In Science: The Ice Caps Are NOT Melting!

  • Ignoring science and realities that did not support their opinions and positions.
  • Rather than have an adult conversation about climate, these types of advocates like Gore sank to the level of insulting those who dared look at ALL science by calling them a variety of names including racists, homophobes, terrorists, flat earth believers, and other slanderous names.
  • Continuing to insist that politicians step up their intrusions into our lives with higher taxes, more regulations, and more control on our freedoms and standards of living based on a shaky theory at best.
  • To see the past posts and the multitude of evidence that we have compiled that showed it is perfectly okay to be a global warming doubter and a believer in science, enter the phrase "global warming doubter” in the search box above or go through the monthly historical post listed on the right side of this page.
Thus, let’s see the latest facts and science that prove you can be a global warming doubter and a believer in science, regardless of what Al Gore proclaims

1) According to the website, Real Science:

  • The Arctic ice cap is now growing at a very quick pace and at the current pace of growth it will be about the same size it was back in the 1980s in about five years, dispelling any remaining global warming doubts and proving just about every historic global warming forecast model to be wrong.
  • It also makes a mockery of Al Gore’s 2009 prediction that the entire ice cap might melt by the year 2014.
  • The increase lately has been due to a change in winds which is helping to preserve and grow the ice volume.
Oopsie from a global warming perspective.

2) We have often made the case that even if the U.S. substantially reduced its carbon footprint, something it has already done in the past decade or so and has done at a substantial rate, if the rest of the world does not reduce its growth in carbon usage, whatever the U.S. does will be wiped out and overwhelmed by the growth in carbon output from countries such as China and India.

We have previously discussed the reality that with an economy growing at seven percent of more year over year, China will need more and more cheap energy to feed that economic growth and keep its citizens happy. And the quickest, cheapest, and best way to do that is to continue using high carbon content coal to generate energy. In fact, China is building massive infrastructure projects to mine coal and turn it into electricity in its coal rich western regions and transport that electricity to its growing cities in the east. They are not about to give up on coal anytime soon.

There are more people living in India today that do not have access to electricity than who live in the entire U.S. The best and quickest way to get these 300 million plus people onto an electric grid is via coal.

But some people in this country, e.g. Obama and Gore, want the U.S. to continue to hamstring its energy supplies and usage to make a philosophical point that will destroy jobs and economic growth in this country without having an substantial impact on worldwide carbon usage and the environment. Recently, Republican candidate for President, Carly Fiorina, elegantly made this exact point in an interview:

“The scientists that tell us that climate change is real and caused by man made activity, also tell us that a single nation acting alone can make no difference at all. So, when I see a state like California destroy lives and livelihoods with environmental regulations that will make no difference at all to climate change, when I see the Obama administration take that same regulation and apply it nationally – it will make not difference at all, yet we’re destroying people’s lives and livelihoods – I wonder, why are we doing this? Why are we doing this when it won’t have any impact? So I think the answer to this problem is innovation, not regulation. But I must say, it angers me when liberals says “I’m prepared for you to lose your job in the name of sending a signal to…” whom? China could care less? In fact, China is delighted that we are not spending any time or energy figuring out clean coal, because they’re going to go do it.”

Her insightful interview can be seen at:

http://rightwingnews.com/top-news/carly-fiorina-destroys-katie-couric-on-climate-change/

3) Matt McGrath, writing for the BBC on July 21, 2015, reported that the Arctic ice volume grew by one third after a cool summer in 2013. That is a lot of growth over a wide area. He also went on to report that the growth in the ice cap continued into 2014.

But rather than accept the fact that the growth was so much, climate change advocates are claiming that 2013 and the subsequent growth in the ice cap was a statistical anomaly. They insist the ice cap will continue to shrink in the decades ahead. Rather than accept the reality that according to the article, “Relative to the average of the period between 2010 and 2012, the scientists found that there was a 33% increase in sea ice volume in 2013, while in 2014 there was still a quarter more sea ice than there was between 2010 and 2012,” they still grasp the concept that this is not reality and this growth is some kind of fluke.

Same attitude with their global warming models. It took decades to prove that all of the highly touted global warming forecast models were wrong even though for those decades they kept telling themselves and yelling at global warming doubters, that the realities emerging, i.e. the world was not longer cooling, was a statistical fluke and due to natural variations but that their theories and models would win out. Which they never did.

4) Maybe these doubters of a growing ice cap should have read a recent article by James Taylor writing in Forbes. His article claims that new, updated NASA data from their satellites show that Earth’s polar ice caps have not receded since the satellites began measuring the size of the ice caps in 1979.

In addition, total polar ice volume has remained above the post-1979 average size. One reason for the panic over global warming and its effects on the ice cap is that 1979 marked the end of a 30 year colder than average trend, which made the ice caps larger than average. Once that cooling trend ended in the late 1970s, the ice cap started to shrink which caused global warming advocates to incorrectly correlate mankind’s activities with shrinking ice caps. The total shrinkage was much less than 10% but that was enough to set off the hysteria.

But all that shrinkage began disappearing in 2012 as the ice caps began growing again, making the 2009 Al Gore prediction seem that much more idiotic. According to Mr Taylor, May, 2015 NASA data from its satellites show that the ice cap is now 5% larger than the post 1979 average. More data means less believability of Al Gore types.

That will do it for today’s proof that it is possible to be a global warming doubter and a believer in science. One of the big selling points of first global warming and then the rebranded hysteria, climate change, was that the ice caps were melting as a result of mankind’s energy generation activities.

Which is what happens when you selectively look at historical data that only proves your point without having a basis in reality. Reality: the ice caps are growing, not shrinking as predicted by global warming tenets. Reality: whatever the U.S. does relative to coal and carbon footprint, it will have little effect unless the rest of the world aggressively does the same, a reality that is unlikely to happen as elegantly pointed out by Fiorina.

More updates tomorrow.

September, 2014 I Am A Global Warming Doubter and A Believer In Science, Part 1: The Arctic Ice Cap Is Growing and Other Climate Change Realities

On a semi-regular basis we have taken an in-depth look at ALL pertinent and relevant global warming/climate change data, statistics, trends, and science under the theme, “I am a global warming doubter and a believer in science.” It was our feeling and position that the people who believed and supported the theory that humanity’s actions was causing global warming and climate change were not being completely honest in their discussion.

It seemed that they were cherry picking information to prove their point rather than looking at all of the information available to reach a scientifically sound basis. To make matters worse, their attitudes to towards those of us that were believers in science but were skeptical about the whole global warming thesis to be honest with you just ticked us off. People like Al Gore go about bashing folks like ourselves, calling them ignorant of science, racists, homophobes, and other derogatory names just because we want to look at the entire picture, just not a slanted, narrow and quite possibly incorrect view of reality.

Past discussions under this theme in this blog can be accessed by entering “I am a global warming doubter” in the search box above. By reviewing those discussions and posts with an open mind, you will find that the science on man made global warming/climate change is far from settled, contrary to the views of global warming advocates. That conclusion is further verified by the latest research and realities that will be discussed below in today’s post and probably over the next few days.

1) One of the things that drive us doubters crazy is the denial of reality by the people like Al Gore that refuse to look at real life data and realities that are contrary to their views. Even when reality smacks them in the face, even when their forecasted events never take place, they still cling to their narrow view of science and data to prove they were never wrong about global warming.

About seven years ago, Al Gore predicted that things were getting so bad that global warming could lead to the Arctic ice cap being “completely gone” by the year 2014.

Well, since it is now 2014 and the ice cap is still with us, this is another global warming prediction that proved to be false. In fact, according to scientific sources and data cited in a recent article in the UK’s Daily Mail newspaper, the Arctic ice cap is actually expanding rapidly, not shrinking rapidly:
  • According to the article, the Arctic ice cap has expanded by 41% over the past two years.
  • If this is indeed true, the ice cap has made up all of the ice mass which it lost between 2009 and 2012.
  • The article claims that satellite images show that the summer Arctic ice cap is thicker and covers 1.7 million square kilometers more than just two years ago.
  • This area is twice the size of Alaska.
  • The satellite images taken from University of Illinois's Cryosphere project, using daily satellite readings issued by the US National Snow and Ice Data Center, verify this finding.
  • The latest readings of the ice cap size were highest levels recorded since 2006.
  • The article goes on to cite other sources including the Danish Meteorological Institute whose analysis and data indicate that the growth has been even more dramatic.
  • Using a different measurement, the Danish Meteorological Institute that the ice cap has grown by 63% in size and is thicker than in the recent past, making it less susceptible to future melting.
Now, some global warming advocates might shoot the messenger here, the Daily Mail, since it is not a part of the “mainstream” U.S. press. But given the sourced data and information, shouldn’t a true believer in science investigate the claims to be sure that critical data and realities are not excluded from the discussion?

But if people like Al Gore did indeed look at ALL data and all science, then they might prove that their views were wrong and that usually is a truth a global warming advocate usually cannot handle.

The entire Daily Mail article can be accessed at:

2) A Senate minority report on global warming/climate change was recently published by the U.S. Senate Environment and Public Works Committee on September 4, 2014: “Critical Thinking on Climate Change - Empirical Evidence to Consider Before Taking
Regulatory Action and Implementing Economic Policies.”
The report is a comprehensive review of the latest science and realities as it applies to the global warming/climate change debate in Washington.

The document is well sourced, easy to read despite a lot of the science referenced and is the type of information that should be used to formulate scientifically based legislation. The entire publication can be accessed at:

Rather than try to explain all ninety or so pages of the research, I will give you the highlights below and allow you to dive deeper in to the publications' findings, research, and conclusions on your own.

Top line conclusions on our changing climate dispute the assertions of people like Al Gore:
  • Rising sea levels due to climate change? Nope, sea levels are stable.
  • Increased frequency of wildfires due to climate change? Nope, the incidence rate of wildfires is down.
  • More severe weather due to climate change? Nope, sever weather frequency is normal.
  • Increased frequency and intensity of hurricanes due to climate change? Nope, frequency and intensity of hurricanes are down.
  • Dwindling number of polar bears due to climate change? Nope, no discernible drop in populations of polar bears,
  • Increased accuracy of climate change computer forecasting models? Nope, models get worse and worse as time goes by in their predictive accuracy.
The publication also takes a look at what is happening in other countries relative to climate change:

1. Australia repealed their carbon tax after the severe and negative economic consequences of such regulation was recognized.

2. Australia is now investigating serious concerns with corruption of the temperature records to falsely and artificially produce a warming trend that did not exist. The publication points out that it is important to note that similar charges and concerns have been raised with in other countries and with other scientists who were caught and/or accused of changing real life data to better fit their non-real life models and hypotheses.

3. The economic impacts in European Union countries that adopted climate regulations, including Germany, Italy, Spain, and the United Kingdom have been disastrous. Serious concerns are now being raised over the economic viability of their manufacturing sectors as well as budget and energy poverty concerns.

4. The poor and elderly are suffering the worst consequences from
these policies.

5. India has since identified Greenpeace as an economic threat,
with Greenpeace long having a record of making significant, scientifically implausible claims.

6. China and India, the two countries whose economic growth is resulting in the bigger and bigger use of coal for power, have indicated that they will not attend the UN summit conference in New York City this year.

7. Only 11 of the 144 original parties to the Kyoto Protocol have thus far signed an extension.

Thus, two overall conclusions drop out of this effort, conclusions that are not at all different than the conclusions we have already come to a number of times in previous posts based on different scientific data and realities:
  1. All of the dire predictions of people like Al Gore, relative to man made activities and the negative effects on the earth’s health, have not come true.
  2. Even if the U.S. was to embark on a sever climate change/carbon footprint reduction effort, any savings in the world’s overall carbon footprint in this country would be substantially offset by the increased carbon footprint of other countries who are increasing their use of carbon intensive coal (e.g. China and India), not signing up for the Kyoto protocol extension, and who are backing off other carbon reduction activities because of economic hardships
Thus, the U.S. would be severely crimping our economy well being for a problem that might not even exist in the face of other countries who do not care.

That will do it for today. More realities relative to the Arctic ice cap and a well sourced, well written review of today’s global warming/climate change reality prove once again that it is perfectly logical and sane to be a global warming doubter and a believer in science, despite what Al Gore thinks and what slurs he might cast.

And the best news for doubters: we are not done with this update. We will need at least one more day to further prove that doubters are realists that look at all science and all realities.
