December, 2015, Part 2, Political Class Insanity: Illegal Immigrants Voting Illegally, Another Failure For American Vets and More

It is the beginning of another month which means it is time again to review the latest political class insanity from the American political class. Each month it takes us multiple posts to cover the wasteful spending, incompetent government organizations and employees, government programs that usually make a problem worse than resolving it, inane and idiotic politician comments, etc.

To review past posts on this insanity and idiocy, just click on the first few posts in each month listed to the right of this page. After reviewing just a handful of these insanity post we think you will agree that we are currently being served by the worst set of American politicians ever to hold office in our entire history.

So let’s get started with the latest insanity:

1) In this country just about anything you do requires you to have some form of government identification with you. From boarding an airplane or train to getting a fishing licence to opening a bank account to even attend a Michelle Obama book signing, you have to present a valid form of government issued id. It is a part of life in America today.

Unless it is to vote, a fundamental underpinning of our freedoms. See, some politicians get hysterical whenever a state implements prudent voter id laws to guarantee that only living citizens vote and that those citizens vote only once. They immediately play the race card and try to undermine those common sense voter id laws.

In addition to the race card, their next argument is that voter fraud is a non-event in this country so why bother with voter id laws? We have already shown that to be a fallacy in the following posts, among others:

Today, let’s consider this piece of political insanity regarding voter fraud in Texas. Tarrant County District Attorney Sharen Wilsen, working with the Texas Attorney General’s office, is in the process of prosecuting a voter fraud case. But here is the kicker on this case. The voting fraud was allegedly done by an non-citizen immigrant, Rosa Maria Ortega.

Ms. Ortega is accused of voting in multiple elections across at least two counties since 2004. Which raises two important questions:
  1. How did she get to vote in any elections given that she was not eligible to vote anywhere in this country?
  2. Why did it take over ten years to weed out this voter fraud?
Ms. Ortega has been indicted for the voting crimes and faces up to 20 years in jail. Sharen Wilsen spoke about the case and crime and why it is important: “This is a big deal. People insist this kind of thing doesn’t happen, but it’s happening right here at home. The principle of one citizen, one vote is one of our most fundamental rights as U.S. citizens, and must be protected.”

One citizen, one vote, a simple concept that is beyond the grasp of many of today’s politicians.

2) Many times we have covered the reality that the Veterans Administration (VA) does a horrible, uncompassionate job of serving the medical and health needs of our veterans. From VA executives rewarding themselves with high pay and bonuses for inferior work and service to our vets dying before they could see a doctor or get the medical help they need. The whole situation is a mess.

Obama has promised numerous times to clean up the mess but that promise is just another broken vow in a long string of broken Obama promises. Even replacing the head of the VA did not improve service and performance.

And to add insult to injury for our vets, consider the following screwup of the VA. According to a November 12, 2015 Washington Examiner article by Curt Mills, VA Secretary Robert McDonald has been encouraging veterans and VA employees to call his direct cell phone number if they have any problems or complaints about VA performance. In a recent interview on Fox News, McDonald said the following relative to a veteran having a problem: “I hope you gave him my cell phone number or my email address because I’d like to get in touch with him.”

Nice human, compassionate touch. However, when Fox News tried to call McDonald’s direct number the call went straight to voicemail and a message could not be left since the mailbox was full. Thus, another Obama administration promise broken. Makes no sense to encourage the calling of a cell phone number and than be so delinquent in picking up and taking care of the messages left that the mailbox is full. Pathetic government performance.

3) We have often reported on how Medicare and Medicaid waste or lose to criminal fraud upwards of $70 to $80 BILLION a year. The following piece of insanity shows how this amount of wasted taxpayer wealth is possible by the Washington political class and the inept government operations it oversees.

Sue Thayer is a former, seventeen year employee of Planned Parenthood. She is involved in a whistleblower lawsuit that alleges that Iowa Planned Parenthood clinics, according to reporting by the Heritage Foundation:
  • Purchased birth control pills for less than $3 each and then billed Medicaid for $35 for those $3 pills for which they were reimbursed $26, making an easy $23 profit for a $3 set of pills.
  • Over the years, her suit claims that fraud, waste, and abuse by Iowa Planned Parenthood entities added up to $28 million.
  • In addition, Thayer claims in her suit that Planned Parenthood also asked their patients to make a $10 donation to their treatment, further increasing their profit margins.
  • At various times from 1991 to 2008, she managed two of those Iowa clinics so she was certainly in a position to know what financial shenanigans were going down.
  • She was fired in 2008 after raising concerns about a certain abortion practice.
So, is Ms. Thayer a valiant whistleblower trying to save taxpayer money or a disgruntled employee looking for revenge? That is for the courts to decide but her suit is quite similar to another whistleblower suit against Planned Parenthood in Texas. In that 2013 case, Houston-based Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast settled with the Justice Department over similar allegations brought by a similar whistleblower.

That Planned Parenthood entity ended paying out $4.3 million under the Federal False Claims Act. Afterwards, the Justice Department stated that: “The government alleges that between 2003 and 2009, Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast billed and was paid by government programs, Texas Medicaid, Title XX, and the Women’s Health Program, for certain items and services related to birth control counseling, STD testing and contraceptives when such items and services were either not medically necessary, not medically indicated or not actually provided.”

Time will tell but given Planned Parenthood precedent and the continual wasting of billions of dollars a year by Medicare and Medicaid, it would certainly not be a surprise if this was a legitimate ripoff of the American taxpayer. It is a ripoff that goes on thousands of times every day, every year, every decade and the Washington political class does very little to stop it.

So what did we learn today: Planned Parenthood clinics have been found guilty of blatantly ripping off the American taxpayer in at least one instant and is being sued in another instance for the same thing, the VA cannot even get a simple phone promise implemented, and not only are American citizens abusing the voting system and its integrity but now illegal immigrants apparently are getting into the act also.

More insanity tomorrow.
