Even their best efforts are almost always ineffective at resolving any problem facing Americans. They spend a great amount of time not trying to improve the lives of their citizens but continually ensuring their reelection and enriching themselves, their families, and their friends in the process, all at taxpayer expense.
1)Kathy Hochul is the governor of New York. We have discussed certain aspects of her inane programs and views in past posts but the latest one is a doozy in a number of ways:
- She has been a big supporter and advocate for so-called “congestion pricing” for cars entering into Manhattan during high travel volume times during the day, i.e. making people driving into Manhattan pay even higher tolls.
- The main reason for the additional toll burden for New Yorkers and New Jerseyans centering Manhattan is to provide funds so that the city’s mass Transit Agency, which is falling apart, could get much needed funding.
- The toll is a whopping $9 a car a day in addition to the existing toll.
- This would cost a daily commuter coming into the city over $2,000 in additional toll costs per year.
- And it would be tough to dodge this congestion toll since it would be in effect from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. every weekday.
- And the $9 toll is not stagnant since it is already planned to go to $12 by 2028 and $15 by 2031.
- And speaking of hypocrisy, the new toll was supposed to take effect earlier this year but Hochul postponed the plan to make sure there was no bad fallout to members of her party prior to the November elections, going as far to falsely claim that it would be too much of a burden for commuters.
- Once the election was over, she reinstated the plan to implement the congestion toll, her “burden” excuse obviously a falsehood.
As we have discussed many times, New York is a top candidate to go bankrupt, given the mass exodus of residents and businesses out of the state, mostly due to high taxation burdens. This has reduced the state government’s tax base and tax stream.
Many of Hochul’s programs and attitudes have promoted this out-migration of tax resources. This congestion toll will likely accelerate that, reducing the tax base as businesses and residents decide to avoid the whole congestion toll taxation by no longer doing business in the city.
As a footnote, many people are not happy about this additional taxation, disguised as a congestion toll, for various reasons: New Jersey governor, Phil Murphy, does not like to see his voters get stuck financing New York City’s infrastructure needs, the United Federation of Teachers do not want their constituents to pay additional toll fees, the New York Farmers Bureau has spoken out against the toll, Manhattan residents have filed a class action suit, and firefighter unions are opposed to the congestion toll for various, and valid reasons, etc.
Lots of folks are against the plan for very valid reasons but Hochul has taken the easy route that most politicians take: rather than fix the problem, just raise taxes, in this case in the form of more tolls. Just another step closer to bankruptcy court.
- Laken Riley was a Georgia nursing student that went out for a midday jog last year.
- She was allegedly accosted by Jose Ibarra, an illegal immigrant from Venezuela, who beat her, raped her, and killed her.
- The House of representatives recently passed the Laken Riley Act, a piece of legislation that would detain and deport illegal immigrants who commit burglary, theft, larceny, shoplifting, and certain vicious and violent crimes such as rape.
- Another common sense approach to illegal immigrant crime and trying to protect the lives and property of American citizens is a basic function of any government entity.
- And yet, a whopping 159 Democrats in the House of Representatives voted against this proposed law.
- This means that only 22% of the Democrats in Congress supported this effort, the terror and fatal fate of Americans like Laken Riley be damned.
- House Speaker Mike Johnson summed up this disgusting attitude very well: “Laken Riley was brutally murdered by an illegal alien that President Biden and the Democrats let into this country with their open border policy. It is hard to believe after countless horrific stories like Laken’s, any House Democrats would vote against deporting illegal aliens who commit violent crimes against American citizens.”
3)The Joe Biden and Kamala Harris’ Presidential administration has been one of the worst in the past century: rising crime, historically high and persistent inflation, rampaging Federal government national debt, dismal failure regarding the withdrawal from Afghanistan, allowing well over 10 million un-vetted and many criminal illegal immigrants to enter the country, record number of vacation days by Biden, failed diplomatic record, etc.
But now that the administration is finally coming to an end, Harris thought it would be a good idea to tour the world, at taxpayer expense, to celebrate the “accomplishments” of the current administration:
- She will be traveling to countries in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.
- The specific countries she will be visiting are Singapore, Bahrain, and Germany, i.e. she will be traveling around the world in five days at taxpayer expense.
- According to the White House: “Throughout her trip, the Vice President will discuss the accomplishments of the Biden-Harris Administration over the past four years in each region, the U.S. partnership with the respective nations, the contributions of U.S. military forces to regional and global security, and the enduring national security interests of the United States.”
- According to Harris: “Over the last four years, President Biden and I have worked to strengthen U.S. global leadership. As a continuation of this work, I will travel to Singapore, Bahrain, and Germany next week to express my gratitude to the brave U.S. service members who defend our values and our interests and to reaffirm the importance of America’s strength in the world.”
- “Really, wouldn't that [reviewing all of Biden’s accomplishments] been done in a text?
- “What is the carbon footprint of this absurd and ridiculous travel?”
- “A short Zoom meeting would have sufficed and saved a lot of taxpayer expense.”
- "We must see where we have been to know what we have done.”, a sarcastic take on Harris’ infamous tendency to speak in “word salad” clumps.
