Hate Week, Part 3: A Hating Government Employee, Picking On A Toddler, and Bringing Back Segreation

Over the past week or so a number of potential Presidential candidates have come forward to throw their hats in the ring for the 2016 Presidential elections. Which means that the hateful hollering and yelling and name calling has started already, something that will go on for at least the next year and a half. And likely intensify and dehumanize as we get closer to the election.

Unfortunately, mature and adult political debate has disappeared a long time ago. Instead, we are stuck with a version of political divisiveness that was first explained by George Orwell in his novel, 1984:

"This is not to say that either the conduct of war, or the prevailing attitude towards it, has become less bloodthirsty or more chivalrous. On the contrary, war hysteria is continuous and universal in all countries, and such acts as raping, looting, the slaughter of children, the reduction of whole populations to slavery, and reprisals against prisoners which extend even to boiling and burying alive, are looked upon as normal, and, when they are committed by one's own side and not by the enemy, meritorious."

This was the original quote. It does not take too much imagination to get from this Orwell view of oppression to today's divisive political environment to get to the following edited version by simply changing just a few words:

"This is not to say that either the conduct of politics, or the prevailing attitude towards it, has become less bloodthirsty or more chivalrous. On the contrary, politics is continuous and universal in all parts of the country, and such acts as name calling, personal degradation, accusations of unpatriotism, sexual degradation, verbal assaults, the reduction of whole groups of fellow citizens with opposing views to idiocy and reprisals against common Americans with opposing views, are looked upon as normal, and, when they are committed by one's own side and not by the enemy, meritorious."

Rather than lead and fix the problems facing the country, today's politicians only know a scorched earth approach to life and serving the country, worried only about their own careers and self enrichment, the good of the country and the citizens be damned. It does not matter if you have good ideas and principles, the only thing that matters is to eviscerate your opponents with lies, deceptions, innuendos, and nasty trash talking.

As a result, we never resolve any of the major issues in this country. Political dialog is venomous and divides Americans into separate camps and tribes, shutting down all hope of compromise and progress. And this is exactly what the political class wants. We fight each other while they continue to enrich themselves and their political donors, destroying our economy, freedoms, and civility in the process.

So for a week or so we are going to call out the haters, both the political ones and their respective allies in the media who are all too eager to join in the slander, mudslinging, and hate. Until we stop yelling at each other and start holding politicians accountable for adult behavior and adult leadership, we will continue to be stuck with the sad state of the nation that we have allowed the political class to create, where it seems that they are the only ones who are doing well.

We started this "hate week" off the past two days with two previous posts we have written in the past. Today and going forward, we will get into the most recent instances of hate and call out the haters for the divisions they have driven into America.

1) Everyone in the country should be allowed to have an opinion, even if it is contrary to what everyone else thinks about a topic and others' opinions. That is fine. However, a member of the Federal government should not be publishing their opinion via Twitter under the banner of their Federal job.

But that is exactly what an economist employed at the Federal government’s Department of Labor did when she went off on a hate filled, name calling rant on Twitter. She determined that ALL Christians are Nazis because of the Indiana Religious Freedom Law. The rant came about as a result of the numerous instances where business owners, specially wedding related businesses like bakeries and photographers, have refused to offer their services to same sex marriage ceremonies based on their religious beliefs.

Yes, the group of people that slaughtered over six million Jews and whose military aggression killed tens of millions of others in World War II are the equivalent of all Christians since a handful of bakeries will not bake a cake. The Tweet is reproduced below:

So, in her mind, all Christians are “Nazis” because a small minority of them want to actually exercise their right to free speech and the free expression of religion, both of which are protected under the First Amendment. Can we see how calling people Nazis is probably not the way to convince them of your view and opinion of life?
Even if she had not done the tweet under the banner of the Federal government, it would have been hate filled and counter productive to improving gay rights. The fact that she uses the Federal government banner to legitimize her view makes it all the worse and more oppressive.http://www.youngcons.com/economist-with-the-department-of-labor-calls-christians-nazis-because-of-religious-freedom-law/2) I think we have all come across a toddler in our lives who is very shy in the presence of strangers, maybe hiding behind a parent when introduced to a stranger. Most of us would just smile and say little kids will be little kids. However, in Indiana if a little kid is bashful he is a racist….. according to Indiana State Representative Vanessa Summers. Ms. Summers was speaking on that pesky Indiana Religious Freedom Restoration Act and referred to a fellow politician’s 18 month toddler son: “I love his little son, but he’s scared of me because of my color — and that’s horrible."Yes, apparently in Indiana white kids become racist at a very young age because they are bashful around adults. The hate continued with her additional comments: “It’s true. And that’s something we are going to work on. … I asked him please, ‘Introduce your child to some people of color so he won’t live his life as a prejudice person.’ I would like for you all to not vote for this bill. He looked at me like I was a monster and turned around and cried. And I told him you need to introduce your child to some people that are dark-skinned so he will not be scared.”It’s one thing to throw some racist accusation or other type of hatred to an adult. But when you bring another person's 18 month old son into the hate diatribe, that crosses so many lines of hate. And some politicians wonder why there is not a lot of cooperation in politics. Hard to be nice to others when they attack your toddler with such venom and insanity.http://rightwingnews.com/democrats/crazy-democrat-worries-about-racism-of-colleagues-18-month-old-son/3) One last piece of hate for today, its gets pretty slimy pretty quickly. Before we get into the story, keep in mind what would have happened if a white politician had said what the following black politician recently said.Brooklyn City Councilwoman and African-American Laurie Cumbo was recently talking about a housing problem that she had identified. In her infinite wisdom she thinks that there are too many “Asians” living in two New York City housing projects: “How is it that one specific ethnic group [Asians] has had the opportunity to move into a development in large numbers?”After rightful rush of opposition and indignity towards her racist comments, she offered an apology but then she continued to dig the hole she created for herself: “There could be some benefit to housing people by culture . . . I think it needs to be discussed," Cumbo related to the New York Post.So let’s review. Great African American leaders like Martin Luther King, Jr. spent their entire lives getting rid of the racist segregationist policies that existed throughout the country. They wanted all Americans to be treated as equals and to break down the barriers that kept the races apart. And now a Brooklyn politician wants to undo all of the anti-segregationist progress and treat everyone as a faceless and mindless drone of a cultural group. Based on your heritage and culture and race, that is how the world should exist in her eyes. God forbid that the races intermingle in her view and that is a racist hatred.

Can you see why the country never resolves any issues? It is tough to compromise and have a mature conversation with someone with a contrary view when in their biased and hate filled eyes you are branded a Nazi because of your religion, your toddler son is branded a racist, and some politician wants to go back to our segregationist past based on everyone's race. That will do it for today’s hate review. More tomorrow.
