December, 2018, Part 10, Political Class Insanity: Wanting To Change The Constitution, An Inane Choice For President, and More Nastiness From Ocasio-Cortez

It is another month which means it is again time to review the latest political class insanity from Washington and around the world. Political class insanity takes many forms including the wasting of taxpayer wealth, criminal fraud within government programs, inane and stupid political quotes and actions, the inability to create and implement effective and efficient government programs, stupid and ill performing economic policies and strategies, and other forms of insanity that continue to evolve and surprise and shock us.

Let’s get started:

1) Obviously, one of the great things about America and freedom is the U.S. Constitution. It is a brilliant document that has provided freedom for untold millions of Americans over the centuries. It has withstood politicians’ countless attempts to destroy it for their own benefit, desire for control, and power seeking. 

And yet, politicians continue to try to undermine it and weaken it today in order to satisfy their short term bias, greed, and desire for power, as Tim Brown pointed out in a recent article on the Freedom Outpost website:

• In a recent interview, California Democrat Ted Lieu publicly stated that he wants to restrict and regulate the bedrock of our country and our freedoms, the First Amendment’s guarantee of free speech.
• Specifically, "However, I would love to be able to regulate the content of speech. The First Amendment prevents me from doing so, and that's simply a function of the First Amendment, but I think over the long run, it's better the government does not regulate the content of speech."
• He would also like to regulate Fox News, destroying freedom of the press in addition to freedom of speech.

Now, he goes onto say such regulations would not be a good thing in the long run. But why is a duly elected member of Congress, who has vowed to uphold the Constitution even thinking such stuff, fantasizing about restricting our freedom? If anything, if he was true to his oath, true to the Constitution, and true to freedom, he should be finding ways of protecting free speech and freedom of the press,not publicly wishing they would go away, at least for the short term.

Freedom usually does not die in a flash. It ebbs away slowing, eaten away by little incremental steps that politicians like Lieu take and crave for so that one morning you look back and you realize that we are not as free as we thought we were or should be because these types of people think they know best and want to the power to show us they know best. 

If the choice ever came down to the Jefferson, Madison, Washington, et al vs. Lieu when it comes to brains and the love of freedom, it is no contest. Lieu is just a small gnat in the history of freedom while the Founding Fathers were epic and legendary when it comes to freedom.

2) Readers of this blog know that we now consider soon to be Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to be both a walking, talking gaffe machine and also a very dangerous and hateful person, who has already threatened to illegally abuse Congressional power because someone simply said something negative about her online. She is an economic major who does not know the simple definition of unemployment, she is an elected Congresswoman who does not know what the three branches of government are, who does not know how to read a Pentagon accounting report, the idiocy list goes on and on.

And we recently found out what a small, disrespectful person she is relative to at least one Marine veteran:

• This twenty something, former bartender has not served a day in office but recently labeled a former four star, career marine general a coward.
• That is what she called former Trump chief of staff, John Kelly, a coward.
• Ocasio-Cortez tweeted out that Kelly should apologize to Congresswoman Frederica Wilson when he called her an “empty barrel” for disclosing the contents of Trump’s phone call with a Gold Star family.

This little twit insults a career military man for something as trivial as this. Pathetic leadership.

3) While Ted Lieu fantasizes about eliminating the First Amendment via regulation, a former Congressman is taking a different approach to dismantling the Constitution:

• Former Congressman John Dingell would like to see both the Senate and the Electoral College eliminated.
• The Senate and Electoral College were brilliant government processes that were put in place to protect the rights of all Americans and especially the rights of Americans living in smaller, less populated states from having their rights overwhelmed by larger, more populated states,
• They are both brilliant check and balance devices to keep government and the politicians that operate government under control.
• It is funny that Dingell never called for their elimination when election results went Democrats’ way and the Democrat had a Senate majority, also quite hypocritical. 
• The system of government put forth in the Constitution tried to ensure that no political party or bloc of citizens ever had total control of government 

.The Liberty Planet website summed up how un-American and hypocritical Democrats are: “Unfortunately, Democrats and their liberal activists no longer seem to care about what is best for everyone in the country. Weirdly, they didn’t seem to care about these things when they were in power, but they develop strangely anti-government feelings when they’re not. In the end, Rep. John Dingell’s calls are hardly the most surprising thing to come out of a Democrat’s mouth.”

4) Let’s finish this month’s extensive political class insanity, idiocy, and dangers with a situation that combines the gaffes and ignorance of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez with insanity of some nobodys wanting to change the Constitution to satisfy a short term political hissy fit. The Vox website, an extreme left wing, liberal website recently published this craziness: “The constitutional prohibition on people under the age of 35 serving as president is just one of these weird lacuna that was handed down to us from the 18th century but that nobody would seriously propose creating today if not for status quo bias. Realistically, most people that young would simply have a hard time winning an election. But if you can pull it off, you should be allowed. And I kind of think she should run for president.

One good sign that AOC [Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez] should run for president is that she has a nickname — AOC.”

What a great idea! Let’s take someone whose most recent professional experience was as a bartender and who has no political, Washington, economic, foreign affairs, or business acumen and experience and give her the chance to become President because...she has a cool nickname. 

This is a woman who has an economic degree but has no idea how to compute the unemployment rate. This is a an elected official but does not know the very basic structure of government. This is an adult that cannot do simple math when it comes to a simple report on Pentagon budgeting. Yeah, she would be great as President.

That will do it for this month’s insanity. The Clintons legal problems mount, Democrats and liberals want to change the Constitution for no good reason, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez continues to amuse and scare with her inexperience, power grabs and idiotic statements, and a whole bunch of other insanity that both amuses us and endangers our freedoms and futures. More insanity sure to ensue by next month.

The Horrors and Destruction that Donald Trump Has Imposed On America...Just Kidding! Part 10

Before we start today’s discussion, let’s review my voting history: 

• I have never voted for a Republican for President in my life. 
• Thus, I did not vote for Trump. 
• I have rarely voted for a Republican for national office in my life. 

About 18 months ago, many liberals, Democrats, and millennials were besides themselves with grief and fear because their pre-ordained queen, Hillary Clinton, was not elected President. Instead, Donald Trump was elected, an individual that these same people despised, hated, and feared, an individual they felt would endanger and possibly destroy the country and our democracy. For the past year and a half they fretted, worried and lashed out at anything or anyone that even remotely smelled of Donald Trump.

Given that Trump has been in office for about 18 months, I thought, that as someone who did not vote for him, it would be a good idea to review the horror, trauma, and terrible things that Trump has subjected the country to in just eighteen month’s time. This is obviously a very sarcastic comment when you take an unbiased look at what has happened during the Trump Presidency. - According to a recent Wall Street Journal/NBC opinion poll, Trump’s approval rating is at its highest level yet at 45%, putting his approval rate at or above Obama’s, Clinton’s, Carter’s and Reagan’s at the same time in their Presidencies.

- According to that same survey, his approval rating among Republicans is at a very high 88%.

- Although liberals and Democrats would like you to believe that Trump is only popular among uneducated white guys, his approval rating among white/college educated voters has gone from 39% in October 2017 to 48% today.

- In another recent poll, this one from RealClearPolitics.com, Trump’s approval rating is also measured at 45%.

- According to analysis of photo surveillance photos, North Korea is actively taking apart important nuclear weapons facilities, hopefully a first step to stopping its nuclear weapons development effort as agreed to at the Trump/Kim summit meeting.

- North Korea recently fulfilled the promise it made to Trump at the summit meeting to return the remains of U.S. soldiers killed in the Korean war, actually returning the remains of 55 U.S. servicemen.

- According to polling by Rasmussen, Trump’s approval rating is even higher, at 48%.

- Americans are so confident in the Trump economy that a record number of Americans are voluntarily quitting their current jobs, assuming they can get a better job in this healthy economy. This so-called “quit rate” is at a 17 year high.

- And in the best economic news in years, the country’s GDP increased over 4% (4.1%) in the second quarter of this year, the highest economic growth performance in years.

- Trump’s toughness on trade resulted in the U.S. trade deficit dropping a remarkable $52 billion in the second quarter.

- The women’s unemployment rate is at the lowest level in over 60 years as the African-American, Hispanic, and Asian unemployment rates are still at or near their lowest level ever.

- The unemployment rate for veterans is at the lowest level in 18 years.

- The unemployment level for disabled Americans is also at a record low level.

- The hot economy has resulted in 3.5 million Americans getting off of the Federal food assistance programs because they now have jobs.

- U.S. manufacturer wages are growing at the fastest pace in 17 years.

- The Trump tax cuts have already led to U.S. companies bringing back $300 billion back into this country for investment in even more jobs and increased manufacturing.

Another sixteen reasons to add to the previous 130 or so reasons why the first year and a half of the Trump Presidency has not wrought disaster on the country.

For those of you that have hated on Trump since day one, and given your obvious gross error in judgment relative to Trump, let me ask that you to do us all a favor by implementing the following changes in your behavior and attitude:

• Chill out, tamp down your TDS affliction. No matter how much you hate Trump on a sexist, personal basis, get over it. He is the legally and duly elected President, he will be around for a while so refocus your hatred on more constructive issues and matters. You will live a lot longer if you take your hatred out of your heart and soul and devote it to something positive.
• I would really appreciate it if some of you would apologize to the Trump voters you have disrespected in some of the grossest terms possible over the past year. You have called millions of voters racists, ignorant, stupid, Nazis, KKK members, and other horrible names simply because you disagreed with their voting choice. No American should be called such disgusting names simply because they exercised their Constitutional rights to the best of their abilities. Plus, slandering over 60 million Americans is no way to unite the country and get it focused on the real issues facing us all.
• More personally, I would like, no I am demanding, an apology from some of you for your slanderous and disgusting name calling because in doing so, you insulted and disrespected my sister, my family members, my friends, and my co-workers who simply voted their conscience. I will defend their right to vote anyway they wanted and will no put up with your childish and vicious venom and bile directed at them, very important people in my life.

And finally, I challenge you to read the following blog post, a post that shows quite clearly that it was hateful people like some of you and your silence during the Obama years that actually caused Trump to be elected. Thus, the people you hate for voting for Trump are actually looking back at you in the mirror:

If you were silent in the dozens of instances listed in this post then you were responsible for the very thing you hate: a Trump Presidency. July, 2016, Part 6, Political Class Insanity: Federal Government Continues To Get Hacked, Mutiny In The State Department, and More

It is the beginning of another month which means it is time again to review the latest political class insanity from the American political class. Each month it takes us multiple posts to cover the wasteful spending, incompetent government organizations and employees, government programs that usually make a problem worse than resolving it, inane and idiotic politician comments, etc. In fact, last month we set a record, needing ten full posts to cover it all.

After reviewing just a handful of these insanity posts we think you will agree that we are currently being served by the worst set of American politicians ever to hold office in our entire history.

It looks like our politicians have been especially insane over the past month or so let’s continue with the latest insanity from today’s American politicians one day earlier than we usually do:

1) It is our opinion that the Obama/Clinton/Kerry foreign affairs strategy has been a disaster. The Taliban control more territory now than what they did way back in 2001, making the investment in U.S. blood and wealth next to useless. The Russians invade Europe (the Ukraine) and nothing is done to punish them of any consequence, years later they still occupy a large part of the country. Iran and North Korea have had almost eight years of unimpeded progress towards becoming nuclear weapons powers. The Obama/Clinton un-Constitutional and illegal invasion of Libya has destroyed an entire society and created a new terrorist haven.

However, perhaps the worse failure had been in Syria. After threatening a “red line” and then backing off of it, Obama’s credibility was destroyed. His arming of the rebels resulted in the development of ISIS, the worst and richest terror group of all time. His premature withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq facilitated the rise of ISIS. 

And apparently, these failures have really ticked off the people most responsible for our foreign affairs, according to an article by Saagar Enjeti writing for the Daily Caller website. In a diplomatic rebellion not seen since the Vietnam War, 51 State Department diplomats signed an internal State Department letter ripping apart Obama’s Syrian policy. 

The diplomats cited the “ continual Syrian violations of agreed upon ceasefires and the “overwhelming” of U.S. foreign policy by the Syrian civil war.” This type of pushback has not been seen since the State Department set up its “dissent channel” during the Vietnam War. The purpose of the channel was to encourage diplomats to express their opinions without fear of retribution.

I go through this background to show that these diplomats are not loose cannons that are constantly complaining when they do not get their way. This is serious stuff and it is the failure of the Obama, Clinton, and Kerry foreign affairs management that caused serious diplomats to step out and speak up. The 51 diplomats are almost all career members of the State Department with a hundreds of years of combined Middle East foreign affairs experience.

I will not go into details of the strategy these professionals think should be followed, they obviously know more than I do. But the insanity of the whole situation is that seven and a half years into his Presidency, Obama is facing a mutiny of the most expert foreign affairs people the country has. He has learned nothing since he was sworn in back in 2009, still allowing his huge ego, vanity, and lack of foreign affairs experience to overwhelm expert opinions and experiences of others. As a result, his legacy has another failure to hang on the wall.

2) Over the past couple of years, there have been a number of instances where hackers penetrated and stole personal and government information from Federal government computers, endangering our national security and the personal identity integrity of millions of Americans. Despite these previous warnings, it appears that the Federal government and the political class that operate it have done little to prevent further hacks.

According to a recent article by George Russell writing for Fox News: 

• In 2014, according to a Government Accountability Office (GAO) report, a single, unidentified Federal agency was hit with a whopping 1,370 computer hacking attacks of its most important computer systems.
• These attacks resulted in 516 so-called “data leaks,” about a 40% success rate for those trying to hack the entity.
• This level of incompetence comes despite the 2014 successful hack when 4.2 million personnel files of past and former U.S. federal civil servants from its Office of Personnel Management (OPM) were stolen by China-based intruders.
• The data for the GAO report came from a survey of 24 Federal organizations, in other words the results were self reported, meaning that the hacking crisis could be far worse than the self reporting agencies are willing to admit to.
• Eighteen of the 24 Federal entities are pretty important since they have so-called “high impact” systems, systems defined as those systems where “the loss of confidentiality, integrity, or availability can have a severe or catastrophic adverse effect on organizational operations, assets or individuals.”
• The GAO was also critical of the processes for cyber security that were in place across the Federal government since the GAPO claimed all agencies of the Federal government “had lots of guidance on how to protect themselves, but even now are still not doing enough to make sure the guidance was followed.”
• Also, it was clear in the GAO’s mind that necessary cyber security training of pertinent personnel had not been carried out and no Federal agency had fully implmeneted identified remedial plans to fix what was wrong with their cyber security.

Bottom line is that like just about every other part of the Federal government bureaucracy, it is totally dysfunctional despite the American taxpayer paying big tax bills for little benefit in return.

3) Consider the sad plight of many Americans today:

• 45 million Americans still need Federal food assistance every month despite us being six years into Obama’s tepid economic recovery.
• Tens of millions of Americans can either not find a job or cannot find a full time job.
• The number of young adults living with their parents is at an all time high.
• About 50,000 Americans die every year from drug addiction.
• The number of homeless Americans at any one point in time is at least in the hundreds of thousands range.
• Many of our armed forces veterans are not receiving the medical care they need and deserve.

I could go on but you get the idea. There are tens of millions of Americans that could use a helping hand to make their lives a little better. 

And yet despite these needs for our fellow citizens, a recent article from the Fix This Nation website found that each new refugee that Obama wants to bring to this country will initially cost American taxpayers about $20,000. According to a report from Negative Growth, Inc.:

• The Federal government spends $19,884 of taxpayer wealth for every refugee that comes into the country.
• This computes out as a result of 95,000 new refugees coming into the country divided into the $1.8 billion annual budget.
• We take in 67% of refugees referred by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
• This is obviously more than the rest of the world combined.
• The $19,884 cost is just for resettlement of refugees, the actual cost is far higher since 74% of refugees are on food stamps, 47% receive cash benefits from the Federal government, 56% are enrolled in Medicaid, and 22% receive some form of housing subsidy.

If someone wants to come to this country today, that is fine as long as they do not burden existing taxpayers with their wants and needs. We have tens of millions of Americans who need food, jobs, housing, drug treatment and medical treatment. With a $19 TRILLION national debt, at some point in time we need to force the political class to look out for our own and not the unwanted of other countries.

Another day, another set of political class insanity: Saving the world’s refugees while our own citizens suffer, a leaky set of government computers managed by incompetents, and a mutiny in the State Department who are tired of Obama’s failed foreign policies. More insanity tomorrow.

The Political Climate of Hate and Hostility that Obama, Not Trump, Created in America

At end of December, 2015, we did four posts in which I discussed the very bad memories I will have from the first seven years of Obama’s Presidency. They ranged from failed programs to out of control spending to outright lawbreaking. The first of those four posts can be seen at:

But two months later I realized that those four posts came up short. I needed another two posts to cover all of the bad memories and failings of what I consider the worst Presidency of my lifetime. The first of those two posts can be seen at:

But recent events lead me to do another post on this theme, the bad memories of a bad Presidency. Last week Donald Trump had to cancel a campaign rally in Chicago because people opposed to his Presidential run threatened violence and disturbances. Trump heeded the advice of law enforcement and cancelled the rally. 

This led Obama to criticize Trump and his rhetoric and accuse Trumpo of causing the unrest, which of course is totally false. The unrest was caused by professional civil disturbers and unpatriotic Americans who wanted to disrupt and prevent the expression of First Amendment rights of people who had a different opinion than theirs.

But I found it so ironic and ignorant of this President accusing someone else of having hateful rhetoric. This President, numerous times, as you will see below, has been either a major instigator of violent rhetoric or stood by and gave his tacit and implicit approval of violent political rhetoric directed at ordinary Americans who had a difference of opinion relative to his policies. Him accusing Trump of violent rhetoric is so hypocritical as to be pathetic.

So let’s see what this “non-violent” President has said or implicitly approved of in the past when it comes to violent oratory:

1) Politico reported during Obama’s 2008 Presidential campaign against McCain that Obama said the following during a campaign event in Philadelphia: “If they bring a knife to the fight, we bring a gun. Because from what I understand, folks in Philly like a good brawl. I’ve seen Eagles fans.” So, don’t like someone else’s position on an issue? Make sure that you get into a brawl with that person and make sure you are more heavily armed. A little violent Mr. President? Guns, knives, brawls?

The fact that Black Panthers patrolled outside of polling stations in Philadelphia during Presidential voting in 2008 may have been a result of Obama’s inciting a brawl to his supporters in Philly.

2) In another campaign stop in 2008, Obama incited his followers with following obnoxious and aggressive rhetoric: “I need you to go out and talk to your friends, talk to your neighbors...I want you to argue with them, get in their faces...you guys are the ones who can make the change." “Get in their faces,” sounds a lot aggressive and violent to me. 

3) Remember when Obama told his supporters that “we need to punish our enemies”: "If Latinos sit out the election instead of saying, 'We're gonna punish our enemies, and we're gonna reward our friends who stand with us on issues that are important to us' -- if they don't see that kind of upsurge in voting in this election -- then I think it's going to be harder. And that's why I think it's so important that people focus on voting on November 2nd….“Those aren’t the kinds of folks who represent our core American values.” 

Let me interpret:

• Political enemies need to be destroyed.
• We will reign supreme and take care of those that helped vanquish our enemies.
• Those that disagree with us do not matter, they do not represent American values, they are superfluous and need to be wiped out.

That is basically what he was saying, wipe them out, they are not like us, punish them for simply having a difference of opinion.

4) For those of you who do not understand what and who created the conditions for the Great Recession, I refer you to a comprehensive history of how the Democrats created the conditions for the Great Recession:

And whatever you think of Bush, understand that his administration saw the impending recession coming long before it hit, but Democrats in Congress constantly blocked many Bush attempts to fix the housing bubble that eventually imploded the entire economy:

Combine these discussion with the reality that Democrats controlled both houses of Congress leading up to the Great Recession, trying to put the entire responsibility for the Great Recession on Republicans is pretty weak and illogical. Which is exactly what Obama teried to do when he basically told Republicans to get the f out of the way as he swoops in to fix what he and the Democrats had a big hand in breaking: “But I don't want the folks [Republicans] who created the mess to do a lot of talking. I want them just to get out of the way so we can clean up the mess. I don't mind cleaning up after them, but don't do a lot of talking.” In other words, shut up and get out of my way. Somewhat violent, aggressive, and condescending, don’t you think?

5) But it was not just Republicans who felt the wrath of Obama’s violent rhetoric and the consequences when his supporters followed up with violence and aggression of their own. Consider some instances of Obama supporter violence examples from an American Thinker website article back in the 2008 Presidential campaign that was directed both at Republicans and Democrats: 

• Dr. Lynette Long, a one time Hillary Clinton supporter, compiled video testimonials of how Obama supporters had abused and aggressively acted against Clinton supporters.
• Her video contained dozens of instances where mostly middle women were accosted and yelled at obscenely by Obama supporters in state caucuses back in 2008.
• Female Clinton supporters claim that there were called c***s, and other sexual names, that they were spit on by Obama supporters, physically threatened with violence amidst an overall environment of open hostility.
• The article also discusses the incident when women supporting McCain were accosted on the street during a peaceful demonstration in support of McCain where Obama supporters came by, calling the women c***s, white whores, and stupid bitches. 
• Besides the verbal abuse, the article claims and witnesses to the harassment claim that the young Obama supporters also shoved them physically.
• Nowhere in the article or anywhere online coudl I find where Obama or any of his handlers came out and demanded this thuggery stop and that the behavior of his supporters be much less aggressive and violent and abusive.

That will do it for today but as you can see, Obama helped create the environment that he now lectures Trump on. Calling women c***s, whores, telling Americans to get out of the way, telling Americans you they need to be punished, telling Americans that they are the enemy, telling his supporters to bring guns and knives to a brawl, telling his supporters to get in others faces. That is the hateful environment that Obama created, lecturing others is so hypocritical and such an absence of leadership.

Unfortunately we will need to do another post tomorrow since we are not yet done on the hateful rhetoric and hateful quotes that this President has encouraged, spoken, and allowed.

February, 2016, Part 7, Political Class Insanity: Unsustainable Federal Debt, Unprotected LA Citizens, Obama Plays The Blame Game (Again!) and More

It is the beginning of another month which means it is time again to review the latest political class insanity from the American political class. Each month it takes us multiple posts to cover the wasteful spending, incompetent government organizations and employees, government programs that usually make a problem worse than resolving it, inane and idiotic politician comments, etc.

To review past posts on this insanity and idiocy, just click on the first few posts in each month listed to the right of this page. After reviewing just a handful of these insanity posts we think you will agree that we are currently being served by the worst set of American politicians ever to hold office in our entire history.

So let’s get started with the latest insanity:

1) This topic is from a few years ago but it is a good example of how today’s politicians are in it for themselves and not for the good of Americans. We have already discussed many instances how politicians ensure they get paid first when it comes to taxpayer wealth. 

Today’s greed comes from the California Political Review website in an article that was published on April 26, 2013 by Katy Grimes. Ms. Grimes wrote that U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein’s husband had been awarded a California railroad track contract:

• Her husband, Richard Blum, won the first phase construction contract for California’s high speed rail line.
• The winning bid for the construction was almost a billion dollars which comes out to a mere [sarcasm]  $35 million per mile of track that is to be laid between the not so mega-cities of Madera and Fresno.
• A billion dollar contract that goes to a U.S. Senator’s husband. Just a coincidence? If I had to bet, I would bet that it was not a coincidence, given the widespread corruption that exists within the political class today, corruption we report on every month. 

But there is also a bigger issue. The politicians in California want to build a high speed rail line along the length of most of the state. The first leg between two very small cities is coming in on an initial bid of a whopping $35 million per mile. Since no government infrastructure project has ever come in at or under budget, that $35 million cost per mile is likely to go much higher. 

And what is the cost going to be when they try to build a rail line in much more populated areas like LA? The costs are going to go through the roof. I will predict today that this endeavor will never make enough money to pay back a cost that is starting at $35 million per mile and future California taxpayers are going to be paying for this idiotic idea for generations.

2) We have often discussed the reality that the economic recovery from the last recession, as led by President Obama, has been the weakest economic recovery that the country has seen in a very, very long time. Despite spending (and wasting) over $800 billion on a so-called economic stimulus program, record low fuel costs for consumers and businesses, and trillions of fake dollars that the Federal Reserve pumped into the economy, the Obama recovery has been stained with the following realities:

• 45 million Americans still rely on the Federal government for food assistance every month.
• 14 million Americans are either unemployed or underemployed since they still cannot find full time jobs years after the end of the recession.
• Wages and household incomes have flatlined over the years since the recession ended.
• Newly created jobs have tended to be in low paying industries.
• The labor participation rate is at decades long lows, bouncing around at the same levels we suffered through during the Carter administration’s stagflation years.
• The true unemployment rate, the U-6 rate, is still almost 10%.

Not a pretty picture from an economic perspective despite the tailwinds of the stimulus, low energy costs, and trillions of Fed paper dollars. Increased taxes, thousands of new Federal government regulations, politicians’ economic ignorance, and the doubt that all of this injected into the economy has left us with a pathetic economic recovery.

And now for the real insanity: given that the entire recovery was run by and occurred during the Obama administration, a time when the Democrats controlled the entire Congress for the first two years of his administration and controlled the Senate for the first six years of his administration, whose fault is this anemic recovery? According to Obama and his recent comments, it is essentially Bush’s fault that the recovery has been so bad despite the fact that Bush left office in early 2009.

Yes, Obama still cannot admit that he screwed anything up, it is always someone else’s fault that he failed to deliver on his promises and duties. The reason why the latest jobs report was so tepid is that there is a lingering “hangover” from the recession in 2008 (eight years ago), a recession that ended well over six years ago. Thus, the reason that the economic recovery that he oversaw and managed and spent lavishly on has been so pathetic is because of what Bush left him with seven years ago. 

As we have said many times with this President, he fails to be a leader since a leader takes blame when things go bad and hands out credit when things go well. This President has not taken the blame for anything but is quick to jump into the spotlight when things go good.

3) A recent Washington Examiner article by Anna Giaritelli on February 4, 2016 reported on another Obama administration failure, this one in the area of criminal illegal immigrants. A Senate subcommittee on Immigration and the National Interest recently issued a report that estimated the number of fugitive criminal illegal immigrants in this country is larger than the total number of people living in New Hampshire’s largest city.

There are an estimated 170,000 illegal immigrants in this country who have been arrested on various criminal charges but who have been let go into the public domain rather than deported. This number is larger than the population of Manchester, New Hampshire, the state which hosted the second primary event of the Presidential campaign. Only 110,000 people live in Manchester. 

The 170,000 criminal illegal immigrants is also larger than the population of 26 U.S. state capital cities. The 170,000 is also larger than the populations of such well known U.S. cities as Chattanooga, Tennessee, Vancouver,Washington, Salem, Oregon, and Kansas City, Kansas. In other words, the Federal government has released a lot of criminals onto the streets of America, criminals that should not even be in this country to begin with.

But it gets worse. The Obama administration reported that in 2015, its immigration function detained 63,539 criminal illegal immigrants, only about one third of the number of criminal illegal immigrants it released back into society. Thus, for every criminal the administration took off the streets of America last year, it put three more back onto the streets. In no universe can this be considered anything but an insane failure of the political class and the government it operates. 

4) Pete Kasperowicz, writing for the Washington Examiner on February 4, 2016, explained how really bad the national debt situation is, as reported by the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) in a recent Congressional hearing. This is particularly important seeing how the debt level recently exceeded a devastating $19 TRILLION. This comes ot to about a $160,000 debt burden for every U.S. family in the country, a burden that goes up every moment of every day.

The head of the CBO, Director Keith Hall, told Congress recently that the national debt trajectory cannot be sustained. Even an improving economy could not reverse the dire consequences that will occur unless that trajectory is curtailed by government spending cuts. Testifying in front of the House Budget Committee he said: "[Economic] Growth will help,” but “We're so far behind, it's hard to imagine that just growth is going to fix this deficit and debt problem."

The CBO is estimating that another whopping $9.4 TRILLION in national debt will be incurred in just the next ten years under current trends, about another $80,000 for every U.S. household. So much debt will make it hard for the Federal government to convince other countries and individuals to invest in U.S. bonds to finance the government operations and the debt it has incurred. This will require the Federal government to increase the interest rate it pays, further increasing the debt.

Director Hall went on to say that: "Over [the] next 10 years, we could see debt go from 74 percent of [gross domestic product] to 86 percent, then eventually to 155 percent over 30 years, which is a really high number." Yes, that is a really big number that makes our financial situation look like Greece and other countries that have spent their countries into a huge debt hole.

Hall also went on to explain how the Obama administration’s idiotic position that since the annual deficits are down to “only” about half a trillion dollars a year, life is good. First of all, half a trillion a year is more than any annual deficit incurred by any previous administration and second, the CBO is quick to point out that under the current spending scenarios, the debt will soon start climbing again and quickly get to a trillion dollars a year.

When pressed by Congressional members on what are the big drivers of this unsustainable debt, Hall replied: "The big growth in the deficit is from Social Security and spending on major healthcare programs. Those are the two big-ticket items that are creating this problem going forward." I am assuming that the medical programs he is referring to are Medicare, Medicaid, and Obama Care. 

Obviously, the Obama administration in its first seven years has come up with no effective ways of curtailing the out of control spending in these programs. In fact, I do not believe the adminsitration has come up with any programs at all including ineffective ones. But it certainly did add to the problem with the expensive and almost useless Obama Care legislation.

Great insanity today:

• The Washington political class continues to spend and indebt us to a future of financial insolvency unless radical spending cuts occur.
• The Obama administration releases three illegal immigrant criminals onto the streets of America for each one it apprehends.
• Seven years into this administration the President continues to blame everyone else but himself for his failures.

Funny stuff unless you are an under protected, over taxed, fed up taxpayer. More insanity tomorrow.

January, 2016, Part 4, By The Numbers: Muslims Do Most of the Suicide Bombings, Chicago is the Wild West, and More

This is the next post this month in our continuing theme of “by the numbers.” We do this theme occasionally where we look at the reality of the numbers in the world and not the lies, deceptions, and spin of the American political class. I used to work for a boss whose favorite quote was: “There is nothing more devastating to an opinion than the correct number.” By looking at the statistics, trends, and numbers in our world we can cut through the politicians’ smoke screen to truly understand what is going on and hopefully, remedy the issues of the day.

And there will be a lot of smoke to cut through in the next few posts. Always believe the numbers before you believe our politicians, numbers do not lie but politicians do.

1) In his recent state of the union message, Obama tried to convince the country, and probably himself, that he did a great job managing the economy over the past seven years. However, as we have pointed out many, many times in this blog, that delusion could not be further from the truth:

• The number of American receiving Federal food assistance is about 50% higher than at the beginning of the recession despite us having seen the end of the recession years ago.
• The economy’s annual growth rate under Obama has not ever come close to the historical average annual growth rate of just over 3%. Obama’s economy has never grown any where close to 3%, never mind exceeding it.
• There are about 14 million unemployed or underemployed Americans who cannot find full time work even though they desire it.
• The labor participation rate is at low levels not seen since the stagflation days of the Carter administration.
• By the time he leaves office, Obama would have added about the same amount of debt to our national debt than ALL previous Presidents COMBINED, leaving the country with a national debt burden of over $20 TRILLION.

And he accomplished these pathetic results despite spending over $800 billion on a (failed) economic stimulus plan, enjoying record low energy costs, and having the Fed pump trillions of paper dollars into the economy.

And the latest economic numbers from the Federal government do not show much of any kind of improvement:

• The number of adults Americans not participating in the work force exceeded an amazing 94 million people for the fifth month in a row.
• The labor force participation rate improved by 0.1% in the month of December vs. November but still remained at a low 62.6%, continuing the trend of low participation levels not seen since the Carter administration in the 1970s.
• While the official U3 unemployment rate stayed unchanged at 5%, we have previously discussed how this is now a bogus number, given how low the labor participation rate is. The U6 rate is a much better gauge of true unemployment and that was at a depressing 9.9%, almost double the now defunct but still reported U3 rate.
• While the economy added about 500,000 jobs in the past two months, a run rate of about 3 million annually, the annual growth in the population adds about 1.84 million adults to the population every year. Thus, over 60% of the job growth under the Obama administration this past year would theoretically be taken up by normal population growth, leaving only about 1.2 million new jobs to be used to hit against the 14 million people discussed above. 
• At this rate, assuming nobody else lost their jobs or got downgraded to part time, it would take a whopping 14 years for the Obama economy growth rate to get everyone a full time job who wanted one.

The numbers do not lie, economic times in this country are not good for many, many Americans. We had previously pointed out this past week several sources of data that showed the majority of Americans either have less than a $1,000 in savings or have no savings. Thus, either Obama is lying to protect his ego or he is delusional since the numbers show the economy he has had oversight of is not in good shape at all.

2) Although the numbers are not good for the entire economy, it is especially difficult for American millennials (aged 35 and younger), according the a recent study by PricewaterhouseCoopers: 

• 40% have used a payday loan, pawnshop, or other unconventional financing option to cover expenses, options that are usually more expensive than conventional options.
• Only 36% have put money away in a 401k account to save for retirement.
• 20% of those had done withdrawals from their retirement accounts, turning their retirement accounts into savings account, savings accounts that come with a stiff tax penalty for withdrawals.

Lay heavy student debt on top of this reality, and we see that the Washington political class has really not made it easy for our kids to have high potential for attaining the American dream.

3) Given the total mismanagement of the economy over the recent years by the President and Congress, the administration’s failed foreign policy and anti-terrorism efforts, and the broken down Federal government operations, it should not be a surprise that Gallup recently found that an amazing 69% of Americans think that big government is the biggest threat to the United States. The other choices were big business and big labor but they were no match for big government.

Think about that number. Almost seven out of ten Americans fear that their biggest problem and threat is the very government that is supposed to protect their lives, their families, and their freedoms. And this fear exists across the political spectrum with 88% of Republicans, 67% of Independents, and 53% of Democrats holding this view. This is especially interesting since we have been living under a Democrat in the White House for seven years and even fellow Democrats think that big government is the biggest threat.

For a historical perspective, this is the second highest level of mistrust of big government in the fifty years that Gallup has been doing the study, with the highest level coming just two years ago in 2013 at 72%. The mistrust of big government during the Obama years averaged out at 64% which is about 15% higher than the average during Bush’s term in office, 56%, but close to the average mistrust level of the Clinton administration of 65%.

Obviously, these results are compatible with other recent poll data that we have discussed, data that found 75% of Americans believe that corruption is widespread throughout the government in this country. This is up from 67% in 2007. Thus, during the Obama administration the corruption perception has gone up 8 percentage points in just eight years.

4) It is no secret that this President seems to have a soft spot for everything Islamic, going so far to refuse to state that radical Islam even exists. This delusions could fill any number of posts but let’s look at a few numbers to prove that radical Islam is a major terrorism problem despite what Obama wants us to believe.

A new research study by Israel’s Institute for National Security Studies at Tel Aviv University found that 452 suicide attacks occurred in 2015. Of the 452 suicide attacks 450 were done by Muslims. 450. One of the remaining two attacks was carried out by the Kurdish underground. The other was perpetrated by a woman supporter of a leftist group in Turkey. And according to the study that latter attack might have been Islamic based also. 

As outrageous these numbers are, both the total number and the fact that almost all of them were done by Muslims, consider the following reality: have you ever heard of a Christian suicide bomber or a Jewish or Hindu suicide bomber? Given that setting, maybe the President ought to reconsider the true danger that radical Islam is to the country and the world, the numbers are pretty convincing. 

5) As we have discussed many times in this blog, Chicago has the strictest gun control laws in the country but somehow manages to have some of the highest crime and homicide rates in the world. Despite this reality, Obama and other liberals insist that gun control laws across the country need to be toughened and more like Chicago’s.

From a logic perspective and numbers perspective, why would we want the rest of the country to look like Chicago, especially when you look at what happened in the first few days of 2016 in Chicago, toughest gun control city in the country:

• In the first 10 days of 2016, 101 citizens of Chicago have been shot and 19 have been killed.
• At this rate over 700 Chicago citizens will be killed in 2016 and over 3,500 will be wounded.
• According to the Chicago Tribune, in the first ten days of 2015, 31 had been wounded and 9 had been killed, obviously much lower rate of violence than in 2016.
• One of the shooting incidents occurred within blocks of Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s home.

If the mayor cannot live in a safe neighborhood and the murder and wounded rate is going up dramatically DESPITE the strong gun control laws, why would anyone want the rest of the country to look like Chicago? Insanity.

So what did the numbers tell us today:

1. The economy still stinks.
2. The economy really stinks for young Americans.
3. We currently fear and do not trust our government.
4. Muslims execute a lot of suicide bombings, in fact, committing almost all of them, despite the President’s apparent blind spot to this reality and numbers.
5. Chicago is going wild in the face of the strongest gun laws in the country.

Those are numbers for today. Remember until the next time we review the numbers, whenever the choice is between a politician’s word and the numbers, trust the numbers.
